An exciting opportunity has arisen to expand the Filmmaking teaching team within the University of the West of Scotland. We are currently looking to recruit a new 0.5fte Lecturer to contribute to the teaching of our successful undergraduate and post-graduate degrees. We are particularly interested in individuals with a proven track record in creative and theatrical documentary filmmaking.
The Filmmaking degree programmes are part of the Arts and Media Division within the school of Business and Creative Industries that also hosts the Creative Media Academy. The UWS Creative Media Academy is an industry-accredited centre of excellence in teaching and research and both our undergraduate and postgraduate filmmaking programmes are accredited by ScreenSkills UK.
Students learn through modules taught by practitioners reflecting current industry ‘best practice’. Expertise across a range of interconnected disciplines is embedded across our different programmes and in addition to Filmmaking and Screen writing we deliver degree programmes in Television and Radio Broadcast Production, New Media, Commercial Music and Music Technology, Performance, Broadcast Journalism, Computer Games Technology and Animation.
You will play a central role in our Screen and related disciplines primarily contributing to our popular BA (Hons) Filmmaking and Screenwriting and our MA Filmmaking degrees delivered both from our state-of-the-art Ayr campus and our teaching and screening space at Film City Glasgow. Candidates should have a strong practitioner profile in documentary filmmaking and an established network of contacts in the Scottish and international film industry. Our student work is of the highest calibre and has garnered awards and nominations from the Royal Television Society, BAFTA and the Grierson Trust.
A PhD in filmmaking or a related field would be desirable, however, our fractional posts are also designed so as to allow committed individuals to continue pursuing a twin career in the creative industries and we will provide professional development in academic practice by offering access to taught post-graduate programmes in teaching. If appropriate, committed individuals will also be supported to undertake a PhD or PhD by Practice.
Informal enquiries may be made to Professor Nick Higgins, Director of the Creative Media Academy on 01292 886298, email Nick.Higgins@uws.ac.uk, or David Scott, Interim Head of Division, Arts & Media, on 01292 886453, email David.Scott@uws.ac.uk
