Insect Symbiosis Ecology and Evolution (ISEE) research group at the Organismal and evolutionary Biology (OEB) Research Programme, University of Helsinki, Finland, is inviting applications for a

TECHNICAL ASSISTANT

in the area of Microbiota analyses, bioinformatics and genetics. We are seeking a curious, dedicated and enthusiastic scientist to work on microbiota data from multiple species.

The OEB research programme at the University of Helsinki is located in the Viikki Science park. The University operates at the highest international level. The Faculty and the University have excellent infrastructure for computational work and for collaboration.

The applicant should hold a MSc or a PhD degree in a relevant subject, such as microbiology, bioinformatics, computer science, statistics. Strong experience in microbiota analyses, computational science, and phylogenetics are targeted and valued as well as good communication skills. The working language is English; knowledge of Finnish is not a requirement.

The research plan is to study microbial communities variation on several species from available data produced in the lab. There are opportunities to teach within the faculty, and to co-supervise students within the ISEE group. This is a great opportunity to put microbiology analytic skills to contribution in the research area. The position will provide excellent opportunities for collaboration both within and outside the University. There are financial possibilities to visit and collaborate with other groups outside the University of Helsinki.

The position is initially limited to 1 year, with a possibility of extension. The salary will be based on the University salary system with at least a demand level of 4, with a minimum gross monthly salary of ca. 2200-2400 depending on the appointee’s qualifications and experience. Candidates with MSc as well as candidates with a PhD degree are encouraged to apply and will similarly be considered!

The position is available immediately or as agreed, with preferred latest starting date being 1st Nov 2021. A six-month trial period will be applied.
