ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR/PROFESSOR (ONE POST)

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The responsibilities of the incumbent will include:

  • Teaching subjects in the subject specialisations of Corporate Insolvency, Business Rescue and Corporate Law in general at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels;
  • Conducting academic and scholarly research in pursuit of the Faculty’s research objectives;
  • Supervising students at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels;
  • Assisting with academic administration and management when required;
  • Providing mentorship to junior academic staff members; and 
  • Performing other duties as may be required by the Head of Department.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Associate Professor

  • A doctorate with specialisation in Corporate Insolvency, Business Rescue or Corporate Law in general;
  • At least eight years’ tertiary teaching experience, which includes curriculum development and transformation as strong recommendations;
  • At least sixteen peer-reviewed or DHET accredited publication units, of which six should have been published in the past four years;
  • Successful postgraduate student supervision, which may be structured as follows: 4 research master’s or 6 coursework master’s mini-dissertations as strong recommendations and, where possible, evidence of completed successful doctoral supervision or co- supervision;
  • Conference papers delivered at national or international conferences;
  • Suitable NRF research rating, or a substantive peer-review report or other proof of academic standing indicating recognition in the field of expertise;
  • Relevant academic administration experience; and
  • Active memberships of relevant local and international subject-related bodies, where applicable.

Professor

  • A doctorate with specialisation in Corporate Insolvency, Business Rescue or Corporate Law in general;
  • At least ten years’ tertiary teaching experience, which includes curriculum development and transformation as strong recommendations;
  • At least 30 peer-reviewed or DHET accredited publication units, of which eight should have been published in the past 5 years;
  • Successful postgraduate student supervision, which may be structured as follows: 6 research masters or 10 coursework master’s mini-dissertations, or at least two completed successful doctoral supervisions;
  • Conference papers delivered at international conferences;
  • Suitable NRF research rating or a substantive peer-review report or other proof of academic standing indicating international recognition in the field of expertise;
  • Relevant academic administration experience; and
  • Active memberships of relevant local and international subject-related bodies, where applicable.

REQUIRED COMPETENCIES (SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND BEHAVIOURAL ATTRIBUTES):

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a dynamic team;
  • Appropriate communication skills;
  • An in-depth understanding of specialisation to enable development of new knowledge, innovation and understanding within the field.

Associate Professor

  • Evidence of community engagement being embedded in the candidate's research and/or teaching will be a recommendation

Professor

  • Evidence of community engagement being embedded in the candidate's research and/or teaching will be a recommendation.
  • A published monograph will be a strong recommendation.

The annual remuneration package will be commensurate with the incumbent’s level of appointment, as determined by UP policy guidelines. UP subscribes to the BESTMED and UMVUZO medical aid schemes and contributes 50% of the applicable monthly premium.
