Description

As part of a major new initiative in strengthening research on human and animal health, the Biological and Environmental Science and Engineering (BESE) Division in KAUST is seeking to expand research and innovations in the field of Developmental Biology, in particular in the area of mRNA biology. Applications for faculty positions at the rank of Full Professor are invited from highly competitive candidates, willing to pursue innovative, fundamental-question and cutting-edge technology-driven research to advance the field of Developmental Biology. Successful candidates should have a Ph.D. in Biological Science or related fields, a strong publication track record in the top-tier venues of their respective areas, as well as a strong commitment to service, mentoring and teaching at the graduate level. Particular consideration will be given to individuals with world-class publication track record with specific expertise in any of the following areas: posttranscriptional regulations in iPSC cells and neurodegenerative diseases, posttranscriptional regulators on physiological and pathological processes such as muscle regeneration, apoptosis, adaptation to stress, and mRNA vaccine technology.

An emphasis will be put on expertise studying the events and factors which determine mRNA fate and processing and their impact on an organism's health, disease onset and aging. Interest in implementing mRNA technologies at KAUST for vaccine production and other applications in collaboration with the Biotechnology industry is desirable. Interest in using KAUST OMICs and Artificial Intelligence capabilities to uncover how mRNA molecules are regulated in various tissues under physiological and pathological conditions will also be considered.

This position is part of a strategic expansion of KAUST in a number of areas including Developmental Biology under the new strategic KAUST Smart Health Initiative. Through the integration of basic scientists, clinical investigators, and innovative technologies, the KAUST Smart Health Initiative aims at creating the ecosystem required to foster highly collaborative “bench to bedside” research and capacity building programs with the greatest potential to transform the practice of healthcare, improve human health, and drive both our fundamental understanding of disease mechanisms and precision medicine in the Kingdom.
