Job Details

The Nutrition & Food Group are a multi disciplinary research team within Northumbria’s Department for Applied Sciences, applying cutting-edge techniques and state-of-the-art facilities to better understand the complex relationship between diet and health.

The European Research Agency Joint Programming Initiative “A Healthy Diet for a Healthy Life”-funded AMBROSIA project(full title: Microbiota-Inflammation-Brain axis in heart failure: new food, biomarkers and AI Approach for the prevention of under nutrition in older adults) aims to develop and test a diet- and supplement-based intervention to improve frailty, inflammation and cognitive function in older adults. The UK component of this project will involve screening of dietary records and metabolomic analysis of biological samples to evaluate intervention efficacy and define response to the intervention. These data will be crucial in driving a machine-learning approach to define novel markers of frailty, under nutrition and/or dietary responsiveness.

As part of this international collaboration, we are now seeking to appoint a highly-committed and motivated postdoctoral scientist to join the Nutrition & Food team at Northumbria University. Applicants should come hold a PhD in Nutrition or related sciences and should have experience of dietary assessment, with additional experience of metabolomic analysis a bonus. You should be able to demonstrate the ability to work independently and as a team member, ideally across academic and industrial partnerships as well as multinational collaborations. Excellent communication and organisation skills are essential.
