Responsibilities:

  • Provide specific assessment expertise, capacity and capability to lead the assessment strategy and associated work programmes for the Office of Education.
  • Deliver and support the School’s strategic objectives and key performance indicators.
  • Enhance the unique Duke-NUS curriculum by improving the programme of assessment of the MD curriculum of the School.
  • Enhance the assessment approaches of other graduate studies, including PhDs and other accredited programmes/courses offered by the School as required.
  • Improve the assessment of educational programmes offered across the SingHealth Duke-NUS Academic Medical Centre (AMC) provided through the Academic Medicine Education Institute (AMEI).
  • Ensure that educational activities are meeting learner needs, programme goals, accreditation standards through effective, robust assessment processes.
  • Develop and implement integrated assessment systems and assessment methodologies that are evidence-based and reflect best practice in contemporary assessment across the School and AMC.
  • Be responsible for the overall performance of the Department of assessment  and the assessment strategy of the School, including the development, leadership and quality management of all programmes of assessment and progression and to ensure alignment with the programmes of learning and support being implemented by the School.
  • Be responsible for the design, planning, blueprinting, standard setting,implementation, conduct, coordination and quality management and quality assurance of all examinations and assessments across the four years of the School curriculum.
  • Select, develop, pilot and implement appropriate new assessment approaches and techniques,as introduced from time to time.
  • Coordinate and oversee faculty recruitment and in partnership with appropriate clinical leads deliver faculty development initiatives for standard setting, calibration, examiner and assessor development.
  • Establish and maintain strong working relationships and partnerships with clinical educators, course, module and clerkship directors and other relevant school faculty including basic scientists, physicians and health profession educators along with school administrative staff in order to ensure the success of the MD Programme,Graduate Studies Programmes and other AMEI initiatives.
  • Promote the educational research and scholarship mission of the School by conducting and facilitating investigator-initiated educational research projects,programmes or academic collaborations or consultancy within School policies and guidelines.
  • Regularly review, revise and update the School’s examinations and assessment systems as needed as part of quality assurance processes.
  • Prepare reports on the conduct and performance of assessment systems and programmes of assessment as part of routine monitoring, quality assurance, accreditation and corporate governance processes.
  • Appropriate duties as assigned by reporting officer.

Job requirements:

  • Preferred MBBS, MD, PhD or equivalent.
  • Appropriate senior experience in managing and leading medical professional high stakes assessment systems.
  • Appropriate postgraduate qualifications or Fellowships in medical education and/or assessment.
  • Skill in examining and re-engineering assessment operations and examination procedures, formulating policy, and developing and implementing new assessment strategies and procedures.
  • Ability to synthesize and analyse quantitative and qualitative data and prepare and present reports effectively.
  • Ability to lead change successfully in a complex environment.
  • Ability to negotiate, mediate and influence effectively and appropriately.
  • Able to navigate complex interdependent professional scenarios and situations.
  • Ability to liaise and communicate effectively with stakeholders
  • Commitment to research and scholarship for example - research productivity,preferably in a higher education institute, healthcare organization or medical education setting; grant funded research as Principal Investigator or lead; peer reviewed research publications or policy development; visiting appointments; advisory roles; consultancy; other evidence of scholarly activities; knowledge creation, synthesis, application and dissemination.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Assessment Experience

  • Experience leading assessment programmes in medical education and developing assessment systems as part of a collaborative team.
  • Evidence of having successfully designed, planned and implemented coherent programmes of assessment and systems of student assessment, including appropriate assessment of knowledge, skills, capabilities, values and behaviours.
  • Conducting and implementing Objective Structured Clinical Examinations(OSCE)including the use of real patients, patient volunteers, simulated patients or simulated or hybrid scenarios.
  • Experience in the use of portfolios, e-portfolios, work-place based assessments and assessments in clinical practice contexts.
  • Blueprinting and standard setting examinations/assessments.
  • Selecting,training and calibrating examiners/assessors.
  • Quality management and quality assurance of high-stakes assessments.
  • Appropriate experience of leading professional or clinical assessment strategies at undergraduate and postgraduate level.

Educational Experience:

  • Faculty development experience covering assessment theory and practice, including qualitative and quantitative analysis, statistics and/or research methods and/or applied and theoretical psychometrics.
  • Familiarity with technology supported and distance learning modalities desirable.
  • Experience of conducting remote or technology enabled high stakes assessments.
