About the opportunity

We are looking for suitably qualified Postdoctoral Research Associate to undertake research in the research group of A/Prof Girish Lakhwani at the University of Sydney in time-resolved spectroscopy of advanced organic molecular materials. Understanding exciton-polariton photophysics in weak and strong light-matter coupling regimes is of particular interest. The appointee will join a multidisciplinary research team, with strong interactions with other research groups and institutions working under the ARC Centre of Excellence in Exciton Science. The overall mission of the Centre is to examine and manipulate the way light energy is absorbed, transported and transformed in advanced molecular materials. The appointee will benefit from collaboration across Centre nodes, an annual scientific meeting, and international partnerships.

We are welcoming applications from female candidates, we recognise career interruption and support flexible working arrangements. The time-fraction of this position is negotiable in the range 0.6-1.0 Full Time Equivalent and can be renegotiated as needed during the term of the contract. Similarly, flexible working hours are also negotiable.

  • high-level expertise in transient absorbance spectroscopy or single molecule spectroscopy
  • high-level proficiency in building, aligning and modifying optical spectroscopy setups
  • experience in oversight and routine maintenance of sophisticated optical spectrometers and setups.
  • skills in thin film fabrication and characterisation
  • demonstrated ability to conduct research/scholarly activities under limited supervision
  • the ability and a willingness to collaborate in multidisciplinary teams to contribute to long-term research goals
  • excellent communication (written and verbal), organizational and problem-solving skills with attention to detail

Key tasks of the appointee will also include contributing to the milestones of the Centre's research platforms, light emitting devices and coherent control of excitons, liaise and have frequent discussions with collaborators and prepare reports on research progress. The successful applicant is expected to be involved in supervision of undergraduate and postgraduate research projects and take on a leadership role in the day-to-day operations of the laser laboratory. The ability to work both as part of a team, and independently, coupled with excellent communication, organisational and problem-solving skills is required.
