About the Role

This Teaching Academic position is primarily focussed on the preparation, delivery and associated administrative duties of the UniSA Connect outreach program, which delivers STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) and Career Guidance programs in schools. The position may additionally contribute to the Academic Unit’s undergraduate and/or postgraduate programs. It will work with guidance and direction from other academic staff and undertake duties with increasing autonomy as the staff member gains skills and experience. The Lecturer utilises contemporary professional/discipline-related knowledge in their teaching practice and carries out activities to develop scholarly expertise.

Core Responsibilities

  • Design, document and implement learning activities and the associated administrative functions including UniSA Connect outreach programs
  • Contribute to and lead the collaborative design and development of engaging curricula and materials and ensure that teaching is informed by relevant research and contemporary practices in the field
  • Undertake teaching and lead teaching teams, including co-ordinating moderation of assessment exercises
  • Contribute professional and scholarly expertise to the research associated with the UniSA Connect program
  • Act as a student advisor by providing academic counselling, mentoring and advice to students.

Essential Skills and Experience

Level A

  • A tertiary qualification in Education or STEM communications and experience in the delivery of STEM education programs
  • Demonstrated ability to undertake teaching duties including the design and preparation of innovative STEM teaching activities and resources
  • High level written, oral and digital communication skills including demonstrated ability to effectively collaborate with team members, external parties including community groups, design organisations and industry colleagues and students
  • High level administrative and organisational skills applicable to the university context
  • Demonstrated commitment to teaching through continual development and improving performance

Level B

  • A Doctoral level qualification in Education or STEM communications and experience leading the delivery of STEM education programs
  • Demonstrated expertise, knowledge and a commitment to the contemporary practice of innovative STEM teaching activities and resources
  • High level written, oral and digital communication skills including demonstrated ability to effectively collaborate with team members, external parties including community groups, design organisations and industry colleagues and students
  • Understanding and experience in using a range of contemporary learning designs and technologies
  • A record of contribution to teaching and scholarship
