The Florence Nightingale Faculty of Nursing, Midwifery & Palliative Care is one of the world’s leading faculties for Nursing and Midwifery studies and we pride ourselves on providing excellent students and education services to our students. Our Senior Placements Officer manages our Placements Team in our Faculty’s Student Services Centre, the Nightingale Student Hub. 
 
Placements are an integral part of our students’ learning. Our BSc Pre-Registration students will spend at least half of their time in placement with one of our NHS Trust Partners across our many Practice Learning Partners (PLPs) within Greater London. Our Senior Placements Officer supports the Faculty’s management and administration for clinical practice placements. This includes essential activities such as allocating placements and supporting risk assessments for students.

Key responsibilities

  • Planning processes throughout the academic year, identifying priorities, demonstrating flexibility throughout the cycle, and adjusting the team’s work accordingly. 
  • Providing a responsive and positive presence within the Nightingale Student Hub, supporting a commitment to a world-class student experience, and supporting King’s Principles in Action. 
  • Coordinating practice-learning administration processes in line with university deadlines and regulations, and internal and external key performance indicators (KPIs).
  • Collaborating with other departments at King’s to support the development of InPlace, King’s placement learning management software, supporting projects as necessary to improve services.  
  • Producing accurate management information to deadlines for internal and external use, including quality assurance data for the Nursing & Midwifery Council (NMC) and Health Education England (HEE). 
  • Supporting the work of the Programmes Manager by managing the day to day running of the team. 
  • Ensuring accurate placement management data, ensuring the timely release of placements, working with NHS Trust Partners on placement mapping. 
  • Coordinating the management of day-to-day student enquiries with the Placements Officers to provide helpful, timely and accurate responses, supporting the Programmes Manager with complex queries where needed. 
  • Working flexibly as part of a team, supporting others in times of high-volume activity (such as Welcome Week and start of a new term).  
  • Engaging with students’ pastoral needs, resolving issues where possible and referring / escalating with, and informing stakeholders as per university frameworks. 
  • Supporting the Faculty’s commitment to accuracy in InPlace data quality, ensuring records are accurately maintained in accordance with the agreed retention schedules. 
  • Ensuring all work is carried out in a professional and timely manner, with appropriate confidentiality and sensitivity. To maintain an up to date knowledge of the data protection requirements and to support Freedom of Information and subject access requests. 
  • Completing other reasonable responsibilities commensurate with the grading of the post as required.  

 
Skills, knowledge, and experience 


Essential criteria 
 
1.       Degree level or equivalent qualification or experience. 
2.       Excellent written, oral communication, numeracy skills including the ability to draft accurate documents and correspondence autonomously to a broad range of audiences.  
3.       Excellent time management and organisational skills and the ability to work to deadlines and plan according to competing priorities.  
4.       Excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook. 
5.       Experience of working with different stakeholders in a professional and assured manner. 
6.       Experience of working in an environment with clear standards for customer services and relationship management, handling complaints and service setbacks in a professional and efficient manner. 
7.       Collaborative, responsive, and relationship-oriented approach to teamwork. 
8.       Commitment to equality and diversity in the workplace. 
 
Desirable criteria 
 
1.       Experience of administrating placement allocations, preferably in a higher education provider or similar. 
2.       Experience in the use of InPlace or an equivalent student placements allocation system to a high level of detail and accuracy, including management information reporting. 
3.       Experience of managing a team of professional services staff, implementing professional standards, and maintaining performance.
