About the team

You will join a collaborative team of researchers at CSIRO and School of Biological Sciences at UWA working on genomic methods to study animal life history parameters.

The Environomics Future Science Platform is a CSIRO research and development program exploring the limits of what is possible at the intersection of genomics and environmental science. By taking advantage of the genomics technology revolution, Environomics is creating new technologies and knowhow for better natural resource management in Australia and elsewhere. Environomics is a collaborative venture bringing together experts in molecular biology, ecology and big data science from CSIRO and the university sector.

About the opportunity

You will play a role and contribute to developing an optimised model for genomic lifespan estimation specific to bony fish. This new model would be calibrated with new genome sequences for fish where we can establish robust lifespan values. The new model calibrated with fish reference genomes and will be more accurate for fish than the model calibrated with all vertebrate classes.

To be considered for this role, you will demonstrate:

  • PhD in relevant field of biology such as statistics, bioinformatics, genomics or mathematical modelling
  • Evidence of highly developed statistical and bioinformatics analysis skills
  • Excellent research and publication profile relative to opportunity
  • Evidence of collegiality, imagination, and a constructive approach to working in teams that undertake both applied and fundamental research

About you

To succeed in this position, you must have highly developed skills in statistical, and bioinformatics analysis skills and/or mathematical modelling. You will be a lateral thinker who is flexible and adaptable. You enjoy new challenges and thrive at problem solving. A background in medicines or agricultural science are encouraged to apply.
