About the team
You will be based in the Continuous Improvement in Care – Cancer (CIC Cancer) Project within the Cancer and Palliative Care Research and Evaluation Unit research team at the Perkins South building in the Fiona Stanley Hospital Precinct.
The CIC Cancer Project is a multi-institutional program of research that seeks to bring value-based healthcare (VBHC) to public and private healthcare settings in Western Australia (WA) – creating value through improving outcomes whilst containing costs. This project will directly improve the lives of those diagnosed with cancer by bringing together consumers, clinicians, health services and researchers to measure both clinical outcomes and outcomes important to patients through understanding patients’ perception of their own health (patient-reported outcomes), identify gaps in their care, and trial new ways to improve treatment.
At times, you will also be required to work on implementation activities alongside teams in WA Health. This may necessitate some short-term placement within these teams.
About the opportunity
As the appointee you will, under broad direction, work to assist in the implementation of the CIC Cancer Project and associated projects, and integration of the findings into care provision. Working closely with WA Department of Health, your role will assist with the establishment and development of approaches taken to improve the quality of cancer care within WA. Whilst the role will focus on implementation in key sites and cancer types, ongoing consideration will be given to how this work could become standard care and ways in which this may also be extended across a wider range of chronic health conditions.
To be considered for this role, you will demonstrate:
- Relevant tertiary qualification or demonstrated equivalent competency in clinical health services
- Substantial and relevant experience in qualitative and quantitative research projects and implementation within the health sector
- Knowledge and understanding of change management and quality improvement in patient care
- Demonstrated ability to co-ordinate projects including planning and delivering outcomes within agreed timeframes
- An understanding of the use of data, databases, and IT systems to capture and communicate clinical and patient-reported information
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills and high-level facilitation and consultation skills including the ability to liaise and engage at all levels with the palliative care sector of the health system, and to facilitate education sessions, workshops and quality improvement activities
- Proficiency in a range of computing skills including word processing, spreadsheets, databases, internet and email
- Ability to work independently, show initiative and work productively as part of a team
