Applications are invited for appointment as Programme Manager of the LLM in Corporate & Financial Law and LLM in Compliance & Regulation (at the rank of Principal Professional Practitioner / Senior Professional Practitioner / Professional Practitioner / Principal Lecturer / Senior Lecturer / Lecturer (as appropriate)) in the Department of Law (Ref: 504431), to commence as soon as possible, on a three-year fixed-term basis, renewable on the basis of performance. The position is for one full-time post but one or more fractional appointments may be considered under certain circumstances.

The Faculty of Law is the longest established law school in Hong Kong. It plays a leading role in legal education in Hong Kong and Asia, through its various undergraduate, research postgraduate, and taught postgraduate programmes covering a wide range of legal subject areas. It is the largest and oldest law teaching institution in Hong Kong, currently consisting of over 80 teaching members drawn from more than 17 jurisdictions worldwide.

The Faculty is a world leader in research and education in the area of corporate and financial law, regulation and compliance. Research is centred on the Asian Institute of International Financial Law, established in 1999. The Faculty offers two globally recognised taught postgraduate programmes in the areas: the LLM in Corporate and Financial Law (LLM CFL, established in 1999) and the LLM in Compliance and Regulation (LLM CR, established in 2016). Together, these two highly competitive programmes accept approximately 150 students each year. In addition to these, the Faculty also hosts the Law, Innovation, Technology and Entrepreneurship (LITE) Programme (LITE, established in 2018), as part of the Experiential Learning, Knowledge Exchange & Innovation Hub. The LITE Programme designs and implements innovative teaching, experiential and research projects to advance support entrepreneurship and innovation, particularly relating to technology. 

The appointees will work with the LLM CFL, LLM CR and LITE Faculty Director and Executive Directors, and other interested staff and stakeholders in the further developing the Faculty’s existing strengths in corporate and financial law, regulation and compliance teaching and impact as well as supporting LITE's teaching, experiential learning and resource building initiatives. The appointees will be expected in addition to focus on development of the Faculty’s executive education programmes.

Applicants must hold a degree in law (LLB, JD, LLM or its equivalent) and should have at least five years of related experience.  Applicants should be qualified to practice law in Hong Kong or another jurisdiction. Applicants would have experience, or a proven interest in, teaching or supervising law students.  In addition to a record of, or demonstrated potential for, teaching, advocacy, and intellectual engagement, the ideal candidate will have experience: 1) as a practicing commercial lawyer in a firm or in-house; 2) teaching practice-oriented courses and supervising students; and 3) working collaboratively with others. Other evidence of experience in designing, implementing and managing experiential learning courses/programmes and relevant knowledge of and practical engagement is preferable.

We are particularly looking for those capable of teaching in courses related to financial regulation and financial transactions, including issues relating to digital finance and ESG.

A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered, in addition to annual leave and medical benefits. At current rates, salaries tax does not exceed 15% of gross income. The appointment will attract a contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme, totalling up to 15% of basic salary. Housing benefits will be provided as applicable.
