The University of Lincoln is an ambitious and fast-growing academic community.  Although established within the last twenty years, it already ranks among the Top 20 Universities in the UK (Guardian University Guide 2020). The School of History and Heritage forms part of the College of Arts, the largest College in the University, and is located at the University’s main Brayford campus beside a natural pool in the River Witham. The School has a growing portfolio of subjects to add to its well-established History and Conservation programmes, and has launched Modern History, Philosophy and Art History and History BA courses.

The School wishes to appoint a conservator to the position of Lecturer in Conservation. Prospective applicants should specialise in conservation of ceramics and gilding, with a proven ability to teach broadly across the curriculum. This appointment will be made to the ‘Teaching, Scholarship and Professional Practice’ profile, which includes responsibility for conducting scholarly and / or professional practice projects, securing funding for these activities, and working with industry to enhance student employability and the student experience. The appointment will be at 0.5 FTE. The successful candidate will gain valuable experience of planning and delivering modules to students across all conservation degree programmes at undergraduate and postgraduate level.

The candidate may be asked to coordinate and teach on a range of modules in the Conservation programmes, including (but not limited to) ceramic and gilding practical. They will take on personal tutor groups and may supervise dissertations at BA and MA level. They will be expected to contribute to Open Days and other recruitment activities.

In making an application please outline your subject specialism and how it relates to the advertised post and to programmes in the School of History and Heritage; provide examples of your experience in teaching within Conservation, and explain any previous experience you have of administrative, pastoral and recruitment activities.

The successful candidate will join a thriving, friendly School with a strong collaborative culture. We take teaching and student experience very seriously, and in the latest NSS the School of History and Heritage programme performed well.

Please direct any enquiries in the first instance to the Head of School, Professor John Morrison (Jmorrison@lincoln.ac.uk)
