  • Full-time at 37.5 hours per week (1.0 FTE)
  • Fixed term position (5 years)

What You Will Do

Applications are invited for a full-time, fixed-term position in the Department of Civil and Natural Resources Engineering at Lecturer or Senior Lecturer level (equivalent to Assistant and Associate Professor in North America, respectively) with a focus on digital building design, such as BIM, building simulation and augmented/virtual reality. The level of appointment will depend on the successful candidate's relevant experience.

This fixed term role will provide coverage for the teaching and administration of the Architectural, Civil and Fire Engineering programs. Your research will complement the Department's present research activities, but is not limited to the topics of Architectural Engineering. You will be encouraged to develop a strong, externally-funded research programme as well as be expected to collaborate with other academics in the Department's teaching and research activities. The appointee will be expected to develop links with and contribute to the wider engineering profession at local, national and international levels.

Who You Are

The successful applicant must hold a Ph.D degree in Civil or Architectural Engineering, or an aligned discipline, and have a demonstrated record of published research. The successful candidate will have a commitment to excellence in developing and teaching courses on the design, simulation and engineering of sustainable buildings at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. The primary teaching commitment will be delivering learning modules in the Master of Architectural Engineering, Master of Civil Engineering and Master of Engineering in Fire Engineering postgraduate programs, that enable a wide range of learners to succeed, including building design professionals seeking to upskill.

It will be an advantage if applicants have expertise in one or more of the following fields, in addition to digital building design: façade engineering; human behaviour in the built environment; daylighting; natural ventilation; low-carbon buildings. The appointee will be able to demonstrate capability in supervising final year undergraduate projects, Masters and Ph.D. students and attracting research funding.

Who You Will Work With

This is an exciting and unique opportunity to develop alongside others in a progressive, supportive, and productive department. You would be joining a vibrant and collaborative team and would play a leading role in shaping our direction. This role also provides key ingredients for successful and high impact research due to the department's engagement and leadership in the resilience, construction, transportation, building services, and natural hazards sectors.

The College of Engineering has just completed a 3 year long, $163 million investment of its engineering specialist laboratory wings and main teaching spaces.
