Assistant Professor in Fashion Design / Textile Design (Ref. 21070814)


The appointee will be required to:

(a)    teach and contribute to curriculum development at undergraduate and/or postgraduate level(s) and supervise research students in the areas of fashion design, textile design or related areas;

(b)    initiate, lead and participate in research, consultancy and other scholarly activities leading to traditional and/or non-traditional research outputs such as publications in top-tier refereed journals and/or exhibitions and shows as well as awards of research grants;

(c)    undertake academic and departmental administrative duties; and

(d)    perform any other duties as assigned by the Head of Institute or his delegates.


Applicants should have:

(a)    a PhD degree in Fashion/Textile Design or related disciplines;

(b)    relevant post-qualification research experience (as supported by evidence of research projects and outputs), and relevant teaching experience;

(c)    sound knowledge of university teaching and/or research experience in fashion design, textile design, intimate apparel and activewear, fashion accessories including footwear and digital design; experience in fashion/textile design at international level will have an advantage;

(d)    solid research and publication record in high quality scholarly journals or international/curated fashion and textile design exhibitions/shows or strong potential to publish in top-tier refereed journals or impactful non-traditional outputs as well as good potential in bidding for research grants and establishing significant externally funded research programmes;

(e)    strong commitment to excellence in teaching, research and professional service; and

(f)    excellent communication skills and the ability to use English as the medium of instruction.

Preference will be given to those who have strong research orientation and a good teaching record.  

Applicants are expected to submit their fashion design e-portfolios including ten samples of their artwork, each with a brief description, together with the completed application.

Remuneration and Conditions of Service
