The School of Accounting, Economics, and Finance, within the College of Business and Economics, offers a suite of accounting offerings at both the undergraduate and postgraduate level.

The Opportunity

The University of Tasmania invites applications from experienced leaders to join the School of Accounting, Economics and Finance in the position of Associate Professor / Professor of Accounting to provide ongoing, high level leadership in positioning the accounting discipline.

This leadership-based role will undertake the position of Discipline Leader of the Accounting area and will make a significant contribution to the development and fostering of research, learning, and teaching within the Discipline.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Provide leadership in assisting the University to achieve its high-level objectives and fulfil its operational responsibilities.
  • Undertake high-quality research of international standing, secure external competitive and other funding, publish research findings and successfully supervise research higher degree students to completion; the incumbent is expected to meet and regularly exceed the University’s research performance expectations.
  • Undertake scholarly undergraduate (and if relevant postgraduate) coursework teaching of an exemplary quality and provide leadership in key areas of learning and teaching in the discipline.
  • Provide exemplary academic leadership, particularly in fostering outstanding research and learning and teaching, and in nurturing and facilitating the career development of other staff.
  • Provide leadership in the development and maintenance of productive and effective links inside the University and locally, nationally and internationally with the discipline, relevant interdisciplinary domains, profession, industry and/or wider community.

Your Application

To be successful in the role, your application will need to demonstrate;

  • A PhD in the field of Accounting or a similar relevant field.
  • A substantial/outstanding record in, and continuing commitment to, research that has achieved international recognition and made innovative, distinguished and sustained contributions to the field of Accounting, demonstrated by an exemplary record of high-quality publications, presentations at conferences and continued success in securing external competitive and other funding.
  • A substantial/outstanding record of successful research higher degree student supervision and completions.
  • Extensive experience and demonstrated achievement in University-level learning and teaching including evidence of the application of contemporary, innovative and applied teaching practices.
  • Proven ability to be agile in response to change, ability to make decisions and take responsibility for activities within the role.
  • Proven ability as an academic leader, with a strong record in team building and creating effective working relationships, along with a capacity to foster excellence in research and teaching and to support and facilitate the career development of staff.

Remuneration

Appointment at an Academic Level D will have a total remuneration package of up to $180,838 comprising base salary within the range of $142,538 to $154,562 plus 17% superannuation.

Appointment at an Academic Level E and will have a total remuneration package of up to $210,344 comprising base salary within the range of $176,256 to $179,781 plus 17% superannuation.
