Role Description

About Aerospace

Aerospace is at the heart of Cranfield’s global research airport and is renowned throughout the world for its teaching and research in the fields of aviation and aerospace.  Cranfield Aerospace’s six centres are the powerhouses of our world class research, driving technological and conceptual advances in aeronautics, propulsion engineering, cyber-physical systems and intelligent automation. Through the strong links with industry built over the past 70 years, we focus on defining and delivering the aircraft, airport and airspace management of the future and are the only university in Europe with our own airport and runway. Cranfield Aerospace is internationally recognised as the first choice for research and education in all aspects of aerospace including aircraft, drones, urban air mobility and space.

About the Role

Within the Centre for Autonomous and Cyber-Physical Systems, you will work closely with colleagues in the Space Group and wider academic staff of the Centre to support the strategic development of Cranfield’s space activity. This involves providing excellent quality postgraduate teaching on our highly successful MSc in Astronautics and Space Engineering, and leading research to strengthen the Centre’s international reputation. The Centre is also establishing with support of Airbus Defence and Space Ltd. a new research activity in Advanced Space Mission Concepts and both appointed candidates will be encouraged to be involved in this research.

About You

You will be educated to doctoral level in a relevant subject and have a PGCert or similar qualification in Higher Education, with experience of teaching and assessment. Ability to design, deliver and assess M-level taught modules is essential. Active research experience will be demonstrated with a proven track record of publishing in the research literature and winning research funding. Experience of teaching and examining engineering or physical science in HE is also required. You will be expected to show initiative in identifying research opportunities and preparing quality research proposals.

In return, the successful applicants will have exciting opportunities for career development in these key senior positions, and to be at the forefront of world leading research and education, joining a supportive team and environment.

To further demonstrate our commitment to progressing gender diversity in STEM, we are members of WES & Working Families, and sponsors of International Women in Engineering Day.

Flexible Working

We actively consider flexible working options such as part-time, compressed or flexible hours and/or an element of homeworking, and commit to exploring the possibilities for each role. Find out more here.
