The Department of Economics at the University of Southampton is looking to recruit one researcher to work on the project ““Mergers and Inventors' Productivity in the Pharmaceutical Industry” funded by Economic and Social Research Council. This is a full time position for a 1-year period and is expected to start in September 2021.

The general aim of this project is to investigate the effect of Mergers and Acquisitions (M&As) on productivity of inventors, using patent information for pharmaceutical companies published by the European Patent Office (EPO). Working under the direction of Prof. Carmine Ornaghi, you will need to estimate quantitative models using different econometric methods. An understanding of recent developments in the fields of empirical IO, in particular, economics of innovation and/or pharmaceutical industry, as well experience in the econometric analysis of big data are a necessity. 

You will have a PhD* or equivalent professional qualifications and experience in Economics and experience with advanced quantitative methods, excellent knowledge and solid practical experience in the use of STATA or a similar software program and good written and oral communication skills.

*Applications for Research Fellow positions will be considered from candidates who are working towards or nearing completion of a relevant PhD qualification. The title of Research Fellow will be applied upon successful completion of the PhD. Prior to the qualification being awarded the title of Senior Research Assistant will be given.
