REQ001190

Grade AC4:  51,034 - £59,135 per annum

Full-time: 35 Hours per week

The University of the West of Scotland is a dynamic and ambitious organisation that aims to change lives, transform communities and encourage enterprise through outstanding, distinctive and progressive higher education.

A recent reorganisation has sought to consolidate the learning technology, curriculum innovation and academic capability aspects of the portfolio to provide a unified approach to supporting institutional change in teaching and learning in a new “Learning Transformation” unit.

This is a key role in the new Learning Transformation structure, and will provide leadership, and bring enthusiasm and a creative approach for the implementation of education change projects across UWS, in particular in the areas of curriculum design, hybrid delivery and academic development.  The postholder will lead the implementation of significant learning and teaching innovation and curriculum renewal across UWS, initially within the “Curriculum Renewal” and “Curriculum Incubator” projects of the UWS Student Experience programme and as outlined in the UWS Learning and Teaching Plan2020-25.

The post holder will also lead the development, deliver and review of a comprehensive academic development provision, including credit-bearing programmes, routes to professional recognition and continuing professional development provision for all who teach and support student learning, within the model of a distributed UWS Academy, comprising leaders and experts in learning and teaching across UWS.

Applicants will hold a PhD or equivalent professional qualifications and experience, and will have significant experience in the delivery of strategic initiatives in learning and teaching development.  You must have highly developed leadership and communications skills, to be able to successfully lead and motivate your team of staff, with the ability to inspire and secure the engagement of academics across UWS.

Informal enquiries about the position may be directed to the Vice Principal Learning and Teaching, Professor Jonathan Powles at jonathan.powles@uws.ac.uk

Closing Date:          Friday 2nd July 2021 at 10.00 a.m.

Interview Date:       Friday 9th July 2021

The selection process will include a presentation to the interview panel followed by interview, and the topic of presentation will be:

How would a distributed, university-wide model of a new “UWS Academy” help us achieve our goals in curriculum innovation and academic capability, and how would you lead the implementation of this model?”

UWS is committed to equality and diversity and welcomes applications from underrepresented groups. UWS is a “Disability Confident” employer.  University of the West of Scotland is a registered Scottish charity, no. SC002520.
