Research Fellow, 3D Live Imaging, and Morphological Quantification of Organoids

Job Description

The Mechanobiology Institute (MBI), National University of Singapore is seeking to recruit a Research Fellow (RF) to join Assoc. Prof. Virgile Viasnoff’s group, in the framework of a collaborative project with academic partners from NTU and CNRS@CREATE. The project aims to develop a deep learning assisted approach to streamline the growth, 3D live imaging, and morphological quantification of organoids.

A key element of our approach are custom-made micro-optical devices. These devices enable a simplified and highly innovative scheme for light sheet microscopy which forms the technical core of this project. The newly hired RF will be in charge of developing the micro-optical system integrated with the microscope platform. Another goal will be to conceive and implement strategies for scaling-up of the production throughput for such micro-devices. MBI provides a state-of-the-art core facility dedicated to micro/nano fabrication for biological applications which will fully support the micro-fabrication part of this project.

Responsibilities

  • Design and fabrication of microfluidic and micro-optical devices
  • Integration of the devices with microscopy set-up and biological protocols
  • Investigate and implement massive production strategies for polymeric microfluidic chip
  • Collaborate with other team members
  • Write scientific papers

Requirements

  • A Ph.D in physics, materials science, engineering or related disciplines
  • Excellent experience with micro-fabrication (lithography and Si micro-machining, polymers micro-molding), characterization techniques (e.g. SEM and optical microscopy) and clean room work is required
  • Good Experience with CNC and micro-milling
  • Good knowledge of simulation/modeling and programming software(s), such as Comsol, Matlab, etc.
  • Documented experience in designing and optimizing microfluidic systems for biological studies is considered a desirable plus
  • Familiarity with industrial-level production processes, such as injection molding
  • Experience in imaging and cell culture is a plus
