Applications are invited for two Lecturers in Physical Geography (Teaching Focus) in the Department of Geography, Royal Holloway University of London. The post is funded through a Leverhulme Research Fellowship.

The successful applicants will join a Department with an outstanding reputation for its teaching and student support (NSS 96% overall satisfaction in 2020) as well as for research excellence (ranked 2nd in REF2014 in the Geography, Environmental Studies and Archaeology sub-panel). They will be dynamic and enthusiastic with the ability to inform and inspire students, and a strong commitment to excellence in teaching. The Department has a strong community ethos, and mentoring and further training will be available to the successful candidate. In 2018 the Department was awarded the Athena SWAN Silver Award from the Equality Challenge Unit, recognising exceptional commitment and excellence in the advancement of gender equality. The successful candidate will engage with and extend the work of the Department’s Centre for Quaternary Research (CQR).

Applicants should demonstrate appropriate expertise in Physical Geography related to the potential teaching areas of the post, with a particular ability to contribute to teaching in biogeography, biodiversity and conservation, palaeoecology, and the numerical analysis of quantitative data. The applicant will make a teaching contribution at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels, including second-year undergraduate teaching on Biogeography, leading a third-year undergraduate option course on Global Conservation Challenges, field course teaching and, on the Department’s MSc in Quaternary Science, contributions in palaeoecology and numerical analysis. Royal Holloway will be delivering a ‘flexible education’ programme in 2021-2022, blending on campus and online teaching.

In return we offer a highly competitive rewards and benefits package including generous annual leave and training and development opportunities. The post is based in Egham, Surrey where the College is situated in a beautiful, leafy campus near to Windsor Great Park and within commuting distance from London.

Please note, the 10-month post is a fixed term post to cover a period of maternity leave. This appointment could end earlier than expected should the substantive post-holder return to work early.
