Role Description

Cranfield University’s world-class expertise, large-scale facilities and unrivalled industry partnerships is creating leaders in technology and management globally. Learn more about Cranfield and our unique impact here.

Cranfield School of Management welcomes applications from Research Fellows, to support the project: Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme and Employer Perceptions of Part-time Working: the implications for economic recovery and future working.

About School of Management

Cranfield School of Management has long been recognised as one of the most established and respected business schools in the UK, with 50 years experience of educating business leaders. We are known for excellence in leadership development, deep-rooted relationships with organisations and a focus on applied research, designed to inform and improve management practice.

The Changing World of Work Group focuses on examining the implications of the changing work context on understanding and managing people and organisations. The Group provides thought leadership in areas such as diversity, the organisation of work (including flexible and agile working), employee engagement and global mobility.  It brings together expertise in Human Resource Management, Organizational Behaviour and Diversity.

About the Role

This post holder will work on the ESRC funded ‘The Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme and Employer Perceptions of Part-time Working: the implications for economic recovery and future working’ research project.  This project, funded under the UKRI Ideas to Address Covid-19 call, is designed to examine employers' experiences of using part-time working under the Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme (flexible furlough) and whether this has changed their perceptions of its feasibility. Data collection will be in two stages, first by means of semi-structured interviews with managers from selected sectors at two time points and second, by means of a large-scale, representative survey.  The survey will be conducted in collaboration with the Confederation of British Industry.

About You

This role provides an exciting opportunity for someone who wishes to apply and develop their research skills and contribute to a project designed to have impact on both policy and practice.  Support will be provided for the development of the postholder’s research skills and help with the development of their research career.

You will be educated to doctoral level in a relevant subject (e.g. Human Resource Management, Employment Relations, Organisational Behaviour) and have experience of data collection and analysis.  In particular you will have well-developed skills in quantitative methods including survey design and statistical analysis, together with experience of writing to a high standard.

In return, the successful applicant will have exciting opportunities for career development in this key position, and to be at the forefront of world leading research and education, joining a supportive team and environment.

Our Values

Our shared, stated values help to define who we are and underpin everything we do: Ambition; Impact; Respect; and Community. Find out more here. We aim to create and maintain a culture in which everyone can work and study together and realise their full potential.

Diversity and Inclusion

Our equal opportunities and diversity monitoring has shown that women and minority ethnic groups are currently underrepresented within the university and so we actively encourage applications from eligible candidates from these groups.

Flexible Working

We actively consider flexible working options such as part-time, compressed or flexible hours and/or an element of homeworking, and commit to exploring the possibilities for each role. Find out more here.
