The School of Engineering at the University of Southampton is a world-class centre for education, research and enterprise. Design teaching is a core commitment within the School and we are looking to further strengthen this activity through two additional appointments to support our continued ambition and growing student numbers. You will be committed to a career in engineering design education to join our nationally recognised design teaching team. 

You will contribute to the delivery of design education through your specialism in one or more of:  design for manufacture, the use of digital frameworks including simulation, virtual reality, optimization & sustainable engineering and material carbon auditing & utilization as applied to the design process as a whole. Your role will provide opportunities for external engagement with leading design practitioners, to supporting the implementation of emerging digital platforms, and developing leadership and management experience. As one of the largest and most diverse Schools of Engineering in the country, our engineering programmes are all highly ranked within the leading UK league tables and the School has a strong culture of supporting education innovation to enhance the learning experience of our students. The successful applicant will have significant experience working in a subject related to design processes. 

You will use your experience in engineering design to invigorate the design curriculum and will demonstrate a commitment to delivering a range of teaching, assessment and feedback methods in a well-organised and structured learning environment. You will possess excellent interpersonal skills and be able to communicate complex information effectively, engaging the interest and enthusiasm of our students. You will take a role in the management and organisation of the programme, including leading cross -disciplinary design modules. You will be able to demonstrate an understanding of the process and importance of research in design development, preferably through extensive industrial experience or by having achieved a professional qualification at an equivalent level to a PhD in a relevant subject.
