Head of Year One - BA (Hons) Acting Accelerated Degree
Fourth Monkey is recruiting an experienced, passionate and talented Head of Year One – BA (Hons) Acting to join the team at their North London centre. Working closely with the student body and responsible for the day-to-day management of the student learning experience and development, the Head of Year One – BA (Hons) Acting will be the primary point of contact for all students within the first-year BA (Hons) Acting cohort at our London training base and will work with the Director and Head of Training as part of their management team to ensure the course meets all industry needs and fulfils accreditation requirements.
The successful candidate will play a vital role in helping Fourth Monkey achieve its organisational objective of revolutionising the arts through innovative actor training, performance excellence and collaboration. They will be both an inspirational leader for the student body and a collaborative team player with a demonstrable experience of working within the Higher Education sector.
The role of Head of Year One - BA (Hons) Acting will suit a confident and driven arts professional with an educational background, excellent communication and motivational skills, an ability to build and develop strong relationships, a keen eye for detail and a strong and generous team player. This is a fantastic role for a manager with a passion for student learning who is looking to work within a supportive and collaborative working environment as part of the core team alongside the Director of Training and Head of Training.
Key aspects of this new role within the Fourth Monkey team include:
- Course Development in support of Head of Training to manage Quality Assurance processes for the BA (Hons) Acting course, plus ensuring course content responds to both industry and student intake needs
- Student Development to assist with the development of bespoke learning plans for each student with clear learning and production goals, monitoring and evaluating student achievement and being the primary point of contact for all Year One students on the BA (Hons) Acting Accelerated Degree
- Practitioner Liaison and Management, including overseeing student warm-ups once a week and sharing feedback with Heads of Movement and Voice as necessary to ensure a managed student warm-up procedure, plus preparing training materials and individual student information for all practitioners and in support of the Academic team.
The ideal candidate will have a minimum 2 years experience of working in an HE Course Leader role (preferred), experience of working in an arts educational establishment and working with experienced teaching and arts professionals in a variety of disciplines.
An experience of providing pastoral support to young adults and students is desirable, as is a technical understanding and experience of teaching acting, movement or voice practices to professional / drama school level.
The Head of Year One - BA (Hons) Acting will have excellent communication skills, a knowledge of actor training courses/training institutions, knowledge of the accreditation process, assessment and reporting plus a passion for inclusivity within the arts sector and an interest in being part of an organisation welcoming and celebrating the individual within a collaborative and often diverse learning environment. Shortlisted candidates will be invited to an interview on Monday 28th, Tuesday 29th or Wednesday 30th June 2021, or Thursday 1st July.
If invited to interview, you will be asked to prepare and deliver a presentation, perform some tasks designed to test your suitability for the role and answer a series of questions.
When answering these questions, you should always seek to substantiate your response with examples from your own experience. You should allow approximately 1.5 hours for the whole interview process.
