Fixed-term, full-time available until 31 December 2021. Funding likely to continue until 31 December 2022.

Compensation Grade:
Higher Education Officer Level 5

Salary Range:
$71,596 - $79,016 pa

Oasis Coordinator

Health, Counselling and Disability Services

Working under general direction, the Community Development Officer will collaborate with the Health, Counselling and Disability Team, International Student Services and the wider university to develop and implement a suite of programs and events aimed at enhancing the mental health, wellbeing and connectiveness of international and domestic students at Flinders University.

The incumbent will work in partnership with students in the promotion, delivery and evaluation of events and initiatives. The position involves a combination of administrative and non-administrative tasks.

Key Position Responsibilities

The Community Development Officer is accountable for:

  • Undertaking the coordination and delivery of events and activities that promote the mental health and wellbeing of all students, including activities that encourage help seeking, reduction of stigma regarding mental ill health, diversity and acceptance.
  • Undertaking the coordination and delivery of events and activities that promote intercultural connections, cross-cultural communication skills, improved multicultural integration on campus and reduced isolation, especially for international students.
  • Partnering and engaging with international and domestic students in collaborative roles in the development, coordination and evaluation of events, activities and projects at Oasis including the Flinders Mates program.
  • Recruiting, training and managing student volunteers to support Oasis student led activities such as the Flinders Mates program, Wellbeing Ambassadors and the Community Market.
  • Overseeing the development of event, activity and project proposals and plans in collaboration with relevant stakeholders across the University.
  • Developing and implementing evaluation plans and responsibility for undertaking and coordinating post-event evaluations.
  • Facilitate administrative support initiatives regarding student wellbeing such as student hardship grants and student progress support as required.
  • Collaborating with Oasis chaplains and staff in order to support all existing formal and informal activities occurring at the Oasis Centre.
  • Providing a range of administrative support services including maintenance of databases and spreadsheets.
  • Any other responsibilities in line with the level of the position as assigned the University. by the Supervisor and/or the University.

Key Position Capabilities

  • A tertiary degree qualification in a relevant field with related professional experience
  • Demonstrated broad understanding of the wellbeing issues facing both international and domestic students in the Australian Higher Education Sector today
  • Experience in building effective relationships within a diverse and multicultural context.
  • A practical understanding of community development and community engagement approaches.
  • Demonstrated skills in the recruitment and management of volunteers.
  • Sound knowledge and skills in event and program planning and the delivery processes and techniques employed to achieve required objectives within scope and budget.
  • Well-developed promotion and communication skills including the use of social media to connect with a community.
  • Effective to well-developed interpersonal skills, including the ability to engage with a diverse range of students in formal and informal contexts.
  • Demonstrated well-developed organisational and time management skills, with the ability to work both with supervision and independently according to defined priorities to meet deadlines and take initiative as required.
  • Well-developed computer skills including a sound knowledge of Microsoft Office and desktop publishing
