At TU Dresden, Faculty of Chemistry and Food Chemistry, in a joint appointment procedure with the Leibniz Institute for Solid State and Materials Research Dresden e. V. (IFW), the
Chair (W3) of Materials Chemistry
in combination with the position of
Director
of the Institute for Complex Materials at the Leibniz Institute for Solid State and Materials Research Dresden e. V. (IFW)
is to be filled at the earliest possible date.
At the Faculty of Chemistry and Food Chemistry, a total of around 130 members of staff are currently teaching and conducting research. About 600 students are enrolled in the Chemistry (Bachelor and Master) and Food Chemistry (State Examination and Diplom) programs offered by the faculty. Moreover, the faculty is significantly involved in the teacher training programs in chemistry as well as in the fundamental courses of numerous scientific and engineering degree programs at TU Dresden. Teaching is mainly provided by 16 Chairs. Particularly in the Master's program in Chemistry, they are supported by seven Chairs who are jointly appointed with non-university research institutions. The faculty's close scientific networks with the numerous non-university research institutions provide an excellent environment for modern teaching and research with a focus on "Material-related Chemistry" and "Biologically-oriented Chemistry".
The IFW is a legally and economically independent research institution and member of the Leibniz Association. The IFW's five institutes work together in a common research program (covering the four fields: functional materials, quantum materials, nanoscale materials, towards products) and have a level of equipment that corresponds to that of an internationally leading research facility. There are numerous cooperations between the Faculty of Chemistry and Food Chemistry and the IFW.
At the IFW Dresden, you will head the Institute for Complex Materials. The research focus should be in the area of scalable synthesis of functional materials, especially 2D materials, their heterostructures and/or nanostructured surfaces. Synthesis research should focus on the realization of innovative materials that can be produced on a technological scale or on the establishment of new functionalities. Ideally, the research field will create a bridge between the application-oriented research activities of the IFW Dresden and TU Dresden's CRC 1415 "Chemistry of Synthetic 2D Materials".
As the chair holder, you will have teaching responsibilities of two to four academic hours per week in the area of appointment at the Faculty of Chemistry and Food Chemistry. Furthermore, we expect your willingness and ability to hold courses in English, as well as your active participation in the academic self-administration.
In addition to excellent scientific achievements in the area of appointment, you are expected to have leadership experience, the ability to work in a team, and strategic management skills. In addition, we expect you to be willing to cooperate in national and international research networks including the initiation of large research projects. Moreover, we regard interdisciplinary cooperation within the IFW and TU Dresden as well as with non-university research institutions of the DRESDEN-concept research alliance and in industry as a matter of course. Applicants must fulfill the employment qualification requirements of § 58 of the Act on the Autonomy of Institutions of Higher Education in the Free State of Saxony (SächsHSFG).
Should you have any questions, please contact the head of the appointment committee, Prof. Dr. Inez Weidinger (phone +49 351 463-33633; e-mail: inez.weidinger@tu-dresden.de).
TU Dresden and the IFW seek to employ more female professors. Hence, we particularly encourage women to apply. Applications from candidates with disabilities or those requiring additional support are very welcome. Both institutions are certified to be family-friendly. Moreover, the university offers a Dual Career Service. If you have any questions about these topics, please contact the Equal Opportunities Officers of the Faculty of Chemistry and Food Chemistry (Dr. Anke Matura, Tel. +49 351 463-35505, anke.matura@tu-dresden.de), IFW (Dr. Anke Kirchner, Tel. +49 351 4659-405, gleichstellungsbeauftragte@ifw-dresden.de) and TU Dresden's Representative of Employees with Disabilities (Mr Roberto Lemmrich, +49 351 463-33175, schwerbehindertenvertretung@tu-dresden.de).
Please submit your application in German or English, including the description of the research concept and the usual documentation (CV in tabular form, description of your scientific and professional career, certificates, a list of your scientific publications, copies of the five most important publications, a list of courses taught including the results of evaluations of the last three years as well as a certified copy of your highest academic degree) until August 31, 2021 (stamped arrival date of the university central mail service applies) to: TU Dresden, Dekan der Fakultät Chemie und Lebensmittelchemie, Herrn Prof. Thomas Henle, Helmholtzstr. 10, 01069 Dresden and in electronic form (CD or via the TU Dresden SecureMail Portal, https://securemail.tu-dresden.de) to: dekanat-chemie@tu-dresden.de. The applications will be made available to the committees of TU Dresden and the IFW.
