This is a full or part time role.
Cranfield Forensic Institute (CFI) provides a Centre of Excellence for the application of science, technology, and other areas to law enforcement particularly through niche areas of forensic science and security studies. For years, CFI has been a home for innovation, expertise, and a strong centre for student community. Cranfield University in conjunction with matched funding from South East Midlands Local Enterprise Partnership (SEMLEP) have recently invested £7.2 million into the latest forensic equipment, teaching spaces and continued recruitment of experienced and industry relevant academic staff. This means that 2021 is a new and exciting year for CFI.
About the Role
This is a new and unique role for experts in investigative policing. As such, we are open to innovative ideas and thinking creatively about the design of new and exciting educational products for policing and recruiting the right people to achieve this. So, whether your expertise has been developed in an operational leadership position, or in academia we are open to applications from a variety of backgrounds. The role is expected to influence investigative areas of policing and have a growing impact on the ongoing professionalisation of specialist roles in this field. You will have an established academic or equivalent police/industrial/government career with the requisite leadership and management experience. A PhD and publications track record are highly desirable but not essential for you to be considered for this opportunity. We are seeking people to join the team who are as passionate as we are about the field of Investigative Sciences.
You will hold a key position within Cranfield’s new Investigative Sciences and Digital Forensics Group (ISDFG), a multi-million-pound group of operational and academic fusion of the fields of forensic science digital forensics and policing. You will be responsible for leadership of the Group and the operational integration within the group, developing and managing new academic products within the ISDFG that meet operational policing needs to an appropriately high level. You will also ensure that developing narrative between academic excellence and operational need is optimal and that the ISDFG operates at the forefront of domestic and international development.
You will be expected to be a leading research academic, and/or a senior operational forensic practitioner working at the highest level within their discipline.
As a Reader you will have a PhD in a relevant academic area (or equivalent experience). As a Associate Professor you will have a MSc in a relevant academic area (or equivalent experience).
You will have gained appropriate experience for this post through either:
- An academic role (either employed or via research) that demonstrates the integration of forensic science with other areas of forensic practice.
- An industrial/government/police role (equivalent to the rank of Inspector or above) with experience of working on crime scenes (e.g., major incident management) and successful application to a long-standing development project.
In addition, you will have significant experience of management & leadership and management of a substantial budget.
