Working closely with staff and students at undergraduate and postgraduate level, they will take the lead on promoting and developing new modes of education delivery in line with the University’s connected learning strategies as we continue to refine our teaching practices for the digital age. Tutors will also have a pivotal role in enhancing the student experience through an exciting mixture of group and individual teaching and support. Tutors will also be instrumental in delivering a wide range of wider educational activities including school outreach, public engagement, hackathons and online learning events.

We are looking for passionate and motivated staff with a primary focus of enhancing the student experience whilst helping the School in reaching its goal of creating a word class Computer Science Connected Learning environment at QUB. We seek candidates who can inspire and motivate students to achieve their best by developing the skills they will need to thrive in the future. In return, you will have access to outstanding teaching facilities and ample opportunity to collaborate with a passionate team of education-focussed academics.

  • Demonstrable practical experience of applying specialist skills and techniques required for the role e.g. relevant teaching experience or evidence of providing coaching and transmitting knowledge and skills to others in a relevant area.
  • Demonstrable ability to support the delivery of Computer Science modules at UG and PG level, through innovative teaching and assessment methods within the School’s Computer Science education portfolio.

Queen's University Belfast is a driver of innovation based on our talented, multinational workforce. Throughout the University, our academics are collaborating across disciplines to develop new discoveries and insights, working with outside agencies and institutions on projects of international significance. We are connected and networked with strategic partnerships across the world, helping us to expand our impact on wider society locally, nationally and globally. The University is committed to attracting, retaining and developing the best global talent within an environment that enables them to realise their full potential.

Our staff and students come from all over the world and we strongly believe in an inclusive and supportive work culture. We recognise the changing demands of family life and the need for flexibility in working arrangements to meet these demands. As a member of staff at Queen’s, you can benefit from our family friendly policies including flexible working, childcare voucher scheme and parental leave. We are proud to hold an Investors in People Silver accreditation, a Health and Wellbeing Good Practice Award, and a Silver Athena SWAN Award in recognition of our efforts to create a nurturing and supportive environment for our people so that they can develop and excel. We welcome applications from all persons regardless of gender, race, disability, religion/belief, sexual orientation or age.

Based in Belfast, a modern capital city, our beautiful campus is surrounded by abundant acres of parkland and is renowned as one of the safest and affordable cities in the UK. The choice of local Schools from pre-nursery upwards are some of the best available, and lovers of the outdoors can enjoy any number of activities from rowing and kayaking to top class golf among many others. We are immensely proud of what our city and our University will offer you.

The University is committed to equality of opportunity and welcomes applications from all. However, our employment monitoring data tells us that individuals from Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME) communities, people with a disability and those who identify as LGBT+ are currently under-represented at the University. Also Protestants are currently under-represented in this category of work. As such, we particularly welcome applications from these individuals.

As you may be aware, Queen's is recognised as one of the most diverse organisations in Northern Ireland. We are committed to ensuring our workplace is a safe, welcoming and inclusive place to work, which is why we subscribe to Equality Charter Marks such as Stonewall Workplace Equality Index, Diversity Charter Mark NI and Athena SWAN.

It is also why we have established award winning Staff Networks such as PRISM and iRise. These networks provide an opportunity for staff to meet in a friendly, informal way to support each other. More details on all our networks can be found here.

Fixed term contract posts are available for the stated period in the first instance but, in particular circumstances, may be renewed or made permanent, subject to availability of funding.

If you would like to find out more, please contact, Erin Bryson, e.bryson@qub.ac.uk.
