The Centre-Val de Loire National Institute of Applied Sciences (INSA) http://www.insa-centrevaldeloire.fr/ is looking to hire a contract research professor effective 1 September 2021.

The Centre-Val de Loire INSA is a public scientific, cultural and professional institution (EPSCP) located on two campuses, in Blois and Bourges.

It awards:
-    4 engineering degrees accredited by the independent accreditation body for engineering degrees (CTI):

  • Energy, Risks and the Environment (ERE),
  • Industrial Systems Engineering (GSI),
  • Industrial Risk Control (MRI)
  • Computer Security and Technologies (STI),

-    The State Landscape Architect Degree (DEP) via the School for Nature and Landscape Department (DENP);
-    PhDs, through its Doctoral schools EMSTU (for Energy, Materials, Geosciences) and MIPTIS (for Mathematics, IT, Theoretical Physics and Systems Engineering).

The candidate must have demonstrated his/her ability to conduct all of his/her staff duties (teaching & research) in French and English (oral and written) and to get involved in the themes of sustainable development and social responsibility.

Teaching

The contract research professor hired will teach the history of landscape modules as part of the landscape architect course (preparatory cycle and State Degree cycle) delivered at the Centre-Val de Loire INSA’s DENP.

The DENP provides training for landscape designers (two-year Master’s degree level), working at different spatial transformation scales.

The multidisciplinary five-year course prepares students for working life and is grounded in both scientific and technical subjects and a creative and expressive educational approach, with sound knowledge of the humanities and social sciences, of spatial representation and of an introduction to research. The training is summarised in practice through a landscape project.

The contract research professor will mainly teach in the form of lectures and practicals in connection with all of the course’s modules (visual arts, humanities and social sciences, environmental sciences, landscape project, etc.) and must demonstrate versatility.

The candidate must have demonstrated experience in one or more of the fields covered by the modules in question: history of gardens, history of landscaping practices, history of landscape projects. S/he must also have experience working with other specialists including ecologists, urban planners, architects, local authorities, associations and owners for example.

A variety of prior teaching experiences will be an advantage.
S/he will be able to organise a range of teaching methods, involving contributions from other teaching staff or field trips.

The contract research professor hired shall contribute alongside other faculty to the educational discussions of the School for Nature and Landscape (ENP), particularly as regards progression of humanities teaching throughout the course as well as the development of interdisciplinary educational methods. S/he shall take part in thematic interdisciplinary trips.

The contract research professor will contribute to all of the DENP’s educational activities, such as: supervising end-of-course assignments (TFE), placements, end-of-course projects in DEP3 and participate in various juries (competitive entrance exam, year or semester for example).

In the medium term, s/he shall be expected to assume educational responsibilities and/or to engage in specific educational missions.

Research

Set up in 2004, the Joint Research Unit (UMR) 7324 CITERES (National Center for Scientific Research/CNRS-University of Tours) undertakes studies into the "Cities and Territories" topic. Its purpose is to analyse the spatial, environmental and territorial dynamics of societies. In this regard, the UMR’s output falls within four main multidisciplinary research fields: urban research, environmental research, studies on local areas and studies on the effects of contemporary social reconfiguration. This UMR is affiliated with the CNRS’ Institute for Humanities and Social Sciences (INSHS) and Ecology and Environment Institute (INEE).

The contract research professor hired shall develop research chiming with the topics of the Territorial and Environmental Actions and Dynamics (DATE) team and more particularly those associated with strand 1, "environmental dynamics, challenges and landscapes”, which develops a comparative perspective between the ecological sciences and social and territorial sciences.

The candidate must have demonstrated an interest in interdisciplinarity and participation in collective projects as well as involvement in research development and leadership (organisation of seminars and symposia, fund-raising and development of scientific partnerships among other things).

The contract research professor may join in landscape work already in progress at CITERES, not least with the research professors at DENP (such as studies in socio-ecology and on the urban morphologies of the Blois LTER site - ZA Loire CNRS).
