Job Description

The Energy Studies Institute (ESI) is a research institute in the National University of Singapore (NUS) seeking to advance the understanding of energy issues by conducting independent research and analysis. We have a research position for an interdisciplinary project on “District Cooling for Future Township Planning in Singapore”. Selected candidate will have the opportunities to work with a team of wide ranging expertise from government agency and the private sector.  In your application letter, please explain clearly your understanding of the job scope, as well as your knowledge and skill sets and how they may fit in to the position you are applying for.

Job scope:

  1. Review the current state of developments in air-conditioning technologies, including costs, performance, and other useful information for the development of a technology database.
  2. Work with collaborating organisations on data collection/sharing, analysis and translation to the energy system model to be developed at ESI.
  3. Work with the team in energy systems model development, scenario design, and model input data processing.
  4. Work with the team to conduct scenario runs and to conduct further analysis based on the modelling results.
  5. Work with the team to carry out additional case studies as specified by the Principal Investigator.
  6. Work with the team in organising regular project meetings and providing updates to stakeholders.
  7. Contribute to writing the final report.
  8. Perform any other duty for the project as assigned by the Principal Investigator.

Requirements

  • A PhD in Energy Science, Engineering, Environmental Management, or equivalent.
  • Those without a PhD will be considered for the position of Research Associate/ Assistant / Engineer depending on qualification and experience.
  • Experience with life cycle analysis, techno-economic assessment, and energy systems modelling analysis can be an advantage.
  • Knowledge of the cooling industry and Singapore’s energy market and energy policy is preferred.
  • Knowledge of basic economics and finance preferred but not a requirement.
  • Possess good communication & interpersonal skills.
  • Able to work independently under minimum supervision.
  • Having a good command of the English language is essential.
