The Southampton Clinical Trials Unit (SCTU), based at Southampton General Hospital, manages a growing portfolio of multi-centre clinical trials that will directly influence routine clinical practice.

Due to new grant awards and an internal re-organisation we have a vacancy for a Clinical Trial Monitor Lead to join the Quality, Pharmacovigilance and Monitoring team to develop a risk based monitoring strategy. The post holder will manage and develop a team of clinical trial monitors and report on monitoring issues and trends to senior management and sponsors. This is an exciting opportunity for someone with previous clinical trials monitoring experience and people management skills to join a CTU which has full registration status from the UK Clinical Research Collaboration (UKCRC). The successful candidate will be appointed at level 5 and must have skill level equivalent to achievement of a professional qualification or postgraduate qualification in a health or science discipline.

The successful applicant will have experience of monitoring clinical trials within the NHS or commercial health research sector. Experience of oncology trials would be an advantage but not essential. The ability to communicate with Senior CTU staff, Chief Investigators and Sponsor Representatives is essential. The successful applicant will also have excellent organisation and communication skills, a good understanding and knowledge of Good Clinical Practice (GCP) and clinical trial regulations, and be willing to travel within the UK.

The employing organisation is the University of Southampton which offers a competitive salary, pension scheme and other benefits. The post is offered on an 24 month fixed term contract in the first instance with the possibility of an extension. The post is available on a part time basis 0.6 FTE but full time applications will be considered.

The CTU is part of a strong research environment in Southampton which includes the Cancer Research UK Clinical Centre, Experimental Cancer Medicine Centre, Wellcome Trust Clinical Research Facility and NHS R&D Management.
