About the Role

We are seeking a data scientist, epidemiologist, or economist with expertise in animal health to join Murdoch’s team working on the Global Burden of Animal Diseases program. The position will be based within the School of Veterinary Medicine and the Centre for Biosecurity and One Health (Harry Butler Institute) and will be involved in the development of the Animal Health Ontology, as well as establishing standardised terminology on animal production systems, production parameters and disease classifications.

You will be working closely with the Informatics Theme (led by Deborah Stacey and Theresa Bernardo, University of Guelph), the Population and Production Systems (Mario Herrero and Dianne Mayberry, CSIRO), and Production Loss and Expenditure Theme (Paul Torgerson, University of Zurich and Alexandra Shaw, AP Consultants).

What you’ll bring to this role:

  • A PhD in the area of data science, epidemiology or economics
  • Experience in developing and curating ontologies or metadata, establishing standardised terminology on animal production systems, production parameters and disease classifications
  • Demonstrated expert knowledge in the use semantic web technologies
