Research Fellow, Chemical And Biomolecular Engineering
Several positions are available in the Department of Chemical Engineering at NUS. We are seeking talented and creative individuals to conduct high quality research in the areas of multi-scale multiphysics process modeling, process/energy integration, process design, process simulation, supply chain management, chemical logistics, surrogate modeling, machine learning, and technoeconomic analysis in 2-3 projects related to electrochemical reactors for the pharma industry and international hydrogen supply chain. The candidates will develop models, solutions, and algorithms for experimental or industrial systems that would enable optimized unit/process designs, configurations, and models.
The candidates must have strong expertise and experience in process systems engineering techniques of process design, simulation, control, integration, optimization, and machine learning. They are expected to work independently and interact with other academic/industry researchers. The work must result in high-impact publications in premier journals. The projects are are time-bound and involve industry collaborations. Achieving milestones on time is absolutely essential.
The positions require the following qualifications:
- A Bachelor’s or higher degree in Chemical Engineering,
- strong programming skills in Matlab, Python, etc.
- strong mathematical, analytical, and modelling skills,
- strong knowledge of process simulation software,
- knowledge of process modelling, integration, and optimization including surrogate modelling,
- one or more years of academic research experience in process systems engineering.
Candidates with higher degrees or more years of academic training will be preferred. Familiarity with the chemical industry and operations is must, and the aptitude for, commitment to, and ability to do applied/academic research are mandatory. The candidate must be able to work in an academic research environment, where both individual and team contributions are essential, and performance is measured in terms of novel and creative ideas, top-quality journal papers, and prestigious conference presentations.
Candidates should have interest and experience in research on systems modelling, simulation, integration, and optimization. Knowledge and experience in posing and solving novel and challenging engineering problems are highly desirable.
The candidate should have the desire to grow into new technical areas and learn new skills. The candidate should have strong and demonstrated communication skills (written and oral) and the ability to interact with research and industry partners.
