Principal Teaching Fellow

Department:  Computing

Contract type:  Full-time, open-ended

Salary range:  £62,271-£67,767

Campus: South Kensington, London

The Department wishes to appoint a Principal Teaching Fellow to assume the roles of Deputy Director of Studies and Deputy Admissions Tutor.  We run eight Computing degree programmes (MEng and BEng), four Joint Maths and Computing degree programmes (MEng and BEng), ten MSc/MRes programmes, and provide service teaching on several Engineering Programmes.

You will manage the students’ educational experience as they transition from school to university and progress through their chosen degree programme toward graduate employment or postgraduate study.

As Deputy Director of Studies, you will work with the undergraduate and postgraduate Directors of Studies to formulate teaching policy with respect to course content, delivery, assessment and resourcing, liaising with the Faculty and College where appropriate.  You will also take responsibility for managing the Teaching Fellows and joint responsibility for the team of support staff, undergraduate and graduate teaching assistants to ensure smooth day-to-day running of the Department’s teaching operations.

As Deputy Admissions Tutor, you will be responsible for the Department’s admission strategy, including implementing admissions targets and standards and for attracting the best students to apply for our degrees and take up offers made.

Applicants should have a PhD in Computer Science or closely related discipline, experience of working in a Computing academic environment and of leadership in the administration of academic teaching and learning.  Broad knowledge of the computer science curriculum and an ability to design and lead teaching-related activities are essential, and specialized knowledge of admissions and course administration would be desirable.  You must be an excellent communicator with experience of producing clear and concise written material.  You will also have the ability to monitor and manage teaching budgets.

As this post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974, a satisfactory enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check will be required for the successful candidate.
