About the opportunity

We are seeking to appoint a Senior Lecturer in Equine Practice (Education-focused) whose primary focus will be to expand knowledge and clinical proficiency within the discipline of Equine practice. This is a rare opportunity to contribute to the Camden Equine Centre (CEC) within the University Teaching Hospital to contribute to the student experience in ambulatory practice, the hospital setting and the development of the Centre of Excellence for equine sports medicine. The Vision of the Centre is to be a world leader in the diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation of horses with sports related injuries and illnesses through innovative research in the field while training the veterinarians of the future.

The education-focused role is a specialised category of academic engagement reserved for talented educators with a passion for, and demonstrated excellence in, pedagogical practice and design. A Senior Lecturer (Education-focused) is expected to make significant contributions to teaching and learning within their School/ Faculty and engage in educational leadership at School, Faculty or University level. A Senior Lecturer (Education-focused) is expected to dedicate the majority of their contribution to education (up to 70% - or by mutual agreement - of their academic workload allocation).

The Sydney School of Veterinary Science is a world-class centre for student learning, research excellence and animal welfare, part of the Faculty of Science. It is recognised internationally as a leading provider of globally accredited veterinary education and is ranked as Australia's leading veterinary school and 16th in the world in QIS rankings. SSVS also holds the highest research ranking (ERA 5/5) in veterinary science.

The SSVS provides a comprehensive clinical service program across the two campuses of the School. This is facilitated by advanced imaging capacity to support equine including standing MRI, Nuclear Scintigraphy, Equine Treadmill and Ultrasound at the Camden campus. Specialist anaesthesia and pathology services are in place on site to support the Sports Medicine and the Equine program. There is a large equine operating suite with theatre, induction room and recently constructed anteroom to provide expected levels of biosecurity.

About you

  • a veterinary degree registerable in NSW
  • a specialist qualification in Equine Sports Medicine registerable in NSW
  • a PhD in the area of equine science with quality publications
  • a track record in research in equine science /sports practice
  • exceptional experience in teaching and learning, as evidenced by leading team teaching
  • demonstrated success in supporting the academic endeavour in providing a student enabling environment
  • a willingness to undertake the Graduate Certificate in Education Studies (Higher Education) or a comparable PG course in teaching and learning.

SSVS is committed to high-quality teaching and as such, the appointee will be expected to undertake the Graduate Certificate in Educational Studies (Higher Education), or a comparable postgraduate course in teaching and learning. This can be waived if an equivalent qualification has been attained from another University.
