Cranfield Forensic Institute welcomes applications for the post of Lecturer/Senior Lecturer in Osteoarchaeology/Forensic Anthropology. 

Cranfield Forensic Institute (CFI) provides a Centre of Excellence for the application of science and technology to law enforcement, Human Rights organisations, and other sectors particularly through niche areas of forensic science.  This extends to research and consultancy in bioarchaeology, osteoarchaeology or forensic anthropology for museums and archaeological units as well as police forces and other agencies.

We offer a suite of highly successful forensic postgraduate degrees and short courses.  Research and development underpin the educational activity of the CFI.  CFI has relocated to Cranfield Campus, and has benefitted from £7.2M of investment funded by the University and South East Midlands Enterprise Partnership (SEMLEP). 

About the Role

You will be responsible for the ongoing development and delivery of a range of educational products, in particular modules such as Fundamentals of Forensic Anthropology, Further Forensic Anthropology, in addition to other MSc modules and short courses, those involving the excavation and recovery of human remains.

Main responsibilities include:

  • Pursuance of an active and high impact research agenda in the field of forensic anthropology/bioarchaeology with relation to trauma and/or palaeopathology/, including writing for and publishing in relevant high-quality peer reviewed journals
  • Design, develop, deliver, and assess a range of MSc modules in the field of forensic anthropology/osteoarchaeology, ensuring coherence with both student needs and customer requirements
  • Thesis supervision, primarily at MSc level and undertake PhD supervision
  • Consultancy work involving fieldwork in the UK and abroad. Therefore, flexibility to work away from home for several weeks a year is welcomed

About You

You will have a degree level education and a PhD in a related area. You will have significant experience in the excavation and analysis of human remains from a wide variety of contexts and periods.  In addition, you will have experience in field and laboratory teaching, and you will have thought of ways to innovate this teaching.

Subject matter expertise in forensic anthropology/human osteoarchaeology/bioarchaeology is essential. In particular, the Centre is aiming to expand their strength in trauma analysis and palaeopathology. 

You will have publications in internationally renowned journals.

A PGCert in Academic Practice, and experience in delivery of post graduate education are all desirable.
