The Organismal and Evolutionary Research Programme (OEB) of the Faculty of Biological and Environmental Sciences comprises roughly 40 research groups, which employ 40 principal investigators and 120 researchers. The research programme is situated in the Vikki science park.

POSTDOCTORAL RESEARCHER

in evolutionary theory for a fixed term of two years. The candidate will work in close collaboration with Prof. Frédéric Guillaume and his team on theoretical models of phenotypic adaption to environmental change. The candidate will work on existing time series of RNA- and DNA-seq data from an experimental evolution experiment with the beetle Tribolium castaneum to understand and model the genetic, phenotypic and environmental underpinnings of adaption to multiple environmental stressors.

We seek candidates with a PhD in theoretical or statistical quantitative or population genetics, and extensive prior experience in computational modelling and collaborative software development. Experience working with omic data (DNA/RNA-seq) will be a plus. Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English, ability to to conceive, execute and complete research projects, and to think independently and creatively are required. The position includes a small teaching commitment (5%). Strong organisational and interpersonal skills are thus also sought for the position.

The salary will be based on level 5 of the demands level chart for teaching and research personnel in the salary system of Finnish universities. In addition, the appointee will be paid a salary component based on personal performance. The starting salary will be ca. 3300–3800 euros/month, depending on the appointee’s qualifications and experience.
