Research Associate / Postdoc

“sleep in mouse models”

(Subject to personal qualification employees are remunerated according to salary group E 13 TV-L)

 

starting as soon as possible, limited for two years with the possibility of an extension for an additional 2 years. The period of employment is governed by the Fixed Term Research Contracts Act (Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz - WissZeitVG). The position aims at obtaining further academic qualification.

The BIOTEC is a renowned interdisciplinary and international research institute of the TU Dresden that boasts a collaborative spirit and cutting-edge technology platforms including state-of-the-art animal facilities. The city of Dresden boasts numerous chances for scientific exchange and collaboration. You will join a team of enthusiastic scientists who pursue creatively their individual research agenda towards a molecular understanding of sleep. Sleep is essential, yet its regulation and molecular functions are not known.

Tasks:

  • The successful candidate will study sleep control and functions in mouse models and will set up a strong research agenda leading to molecular and mechanistic insight into molecular sleep regulation and functions in mammals.

Requirements:

  • an excellent university degree (Msc or equivalent) in biology, or a related life science discipline with profound knowledge of molecular biology and physiology and an outstanding PhD with experience in molecular biology, physiology, or neuroscience of the mouse.
  • Previous experience in animal research (such as obtaining authorizations and carrying out animal experiments) and formal qualification for conducting experiments are required.
  • very good interpersonal and communication skills; in particular, the ability to effectively work in collaborative research efforts.
  • Fluency in English - written and oral, sufficient knowledge of German to communicate with authorities etc..
  • Knowledge of electrophysiological methods is desirable.
