At TU Dresden, Faculty of Architecture the Institute of Architectural History, Architectural Theory and Historic Preservation invites applications for the

Chair (W3) of Architectural History
and Architectural Theory

to be filled from April 1, 2023.

As one of the major schools of architecture in Germany, the Faculty of Architecture pursues an integrated teaching approach in which the analytical, research-oriented subjects cooperate with the planning and design subjects in a cross-methodological way. Both Dresden and TU Dresden as one of ten excellence universities in Germany offer ideal conditions for this. In line with TU Dresden's approach of close cooperation with non-university research and cultural institutions (DRESDEN-concept), a highly attractive transdisciplinary science network will be at your disposal.

We are looking for a highly qualified individual who will represent the field of architectural history and architectural theory in research and teaching with commitment and with the expertise to convey the historical, social and technical-constructive aspects of building as well as design and building archaeology. It is important to the faculty that the chair continues the specific expertise and interdisciplinary approach of teaching and research in this field, which links a broad and deep knowledge of building culture and the awareness of the impact of historical conditions on the building process with the engineering and environmental sciences as well as the humanities and social sciences. We would like you to create and lead projects of interdisciplinary cooperation within TU Dresden, but also with technical authorities and research institutions. In teaching, the chair primarily serves as a compulsory and elective subject within the diploma study program architecture and the bachelor/master program landscape architecture; however, it also provides teaching export for the bachelor/master program in art history and the state examination program in teaching at vocational schools.

We expect a successful scientific activity in a current area in the field of appointment, excellent research achievements with high development potential (also with respect to a global perspective), relevant teaching experience, special didactic skills and success in the acquisition of third party funding. We are looking for a dynamic, committed and responsible personality who is able to inspire our students with high motivation and didactic skills in teaching, and can contribute to the future profile of our faculty through relevant research projects. We expect your willingness to teach in English as well as the participation in international cooperation and exchange programs and in the academic self-administration. Prerequisites for an appointment are a university degree in architecture or art history (with a focus on architectural history), pedagogical aptitude, special aptitude for scientific work as evidenced by a high-quality doctorate, and other outstanding academic achievements. The latter can be demonstrated by a habilitation, a (junior) professorship or equivalent achievements. Applicants must fulfill the employment qualification requirements of § 58 of the Act on the Autonomy of Institutions of Higher Education in the Free State of Saxony (SächsHSFG).

For further questions, please contact the Dean of the Faculty of Architecture, Prof. Jörg Joppien, tel. +49 351 463-32976; email: dekanat.architektur@tu-dresden.de.

TU Dresden seeks to employ more female professors. Hence, we particularly encourage women to apply. Applications from candidates with disabilities or those requiring additional support are very welcome. The University is a certified family-friendly university and offers a Dual Career Service. If you have any questions about these topics, please contact the Equal Opportunities Officer of the Faculty of Architecture (Dr.-Ing. Henrike Schoper, +49 351 463-35392) or the Representative of Employees with Disabilities (Mr. Roberto Lemmrich, +49 351 463-33175).

Please send your application with a curriculum vitae in tabular form, a description of your scientific career, a list of publications and a description of your teaching activities, including (if available) the results of the teaching evaluation, as well as a certified copy of the certificate of the highest academic degree obtained by June 3, 2021 (stamped arrival date of the university central mail service applies) to: TU Dresden, Fakultät Architektur, Dekan, Herrn Prof. Jörg Joppien, Helmholtzstr. 10, 01069 Dresden and in electronic form (CD, USB storage medium or via the SecureMail Portal of the TU Dresden, https://securemail.tu-dresden.de to dekanat.architektur@tu-dresden.de).
