We are looking for experienced EAP tutors to teach across the range of our EAP programmes at King’s. You will have a background in teaching on a variety of EAP programmes, including Foundation, Pre-sessional and embedded degree support classes, will have demonstrable experience in developing materials in a variety of media, and will be able to demonstrate interest and experience in integrating technology into teaching, as well as in online and/or blended approaches to teaching.

You will be educated to a minimum of master’s level, preferably in the area of TESOL/Applied Linguistics (we will consider those currently undertaking a master’s) and will hold a DELTA/Trinity TESOL diploma (or equivalent completed, or near completion). 

You will be based at King’s Foundations (Bush House) and, like all members of the Department, may be required to work on any of the King's campuses or from home. 

Please note that all tutors are also personal tutors, including for those under 18, and so an enhanced DBS check is a requirement of our recruitment procedure. Teaching is across the year, with all EAP tutors working on the summer Pre-sessional programmes and/or the Extended King’s International Programme.  

This post will be offered on an indefinite contract.

This is a full-time post - 100% full time equivalent

Key responsibilities 

• To teach across the range of King’s Foundations programmes at all levels, both campus-based and online 
• To input on the design and development of all King’s Foundations programmes
• To contribute to departmental academic life and focus on the development of pedagogical excellence across programmes

The above list of responsibilities may not be exhaustive, and the post holder will be required to undertake such tasks and responsibilities as may reasonably be expected within the scope and grading of the post.

Skills, knowledge, and experience

Essential criteria 

1. Appropriate postgraduate degree, preferably in TESOL/Applied Linguistics, either completed or near completion.  

2. Recognised level 7 teaching qualification (e.g. DELTA/PGCE/Trinity Diploma), either completed or near completion resulting in TEFL-Q status.  

3. Up-to-date knowledge of EAP, study skills, online pedagogy & developments in these fields.

4. English for Academic Purposes teaching experience at pre-degree level both online and on campus on courses such as Foundation and Pre-sessionals.

5. Experience of high-quality, innovative EAP materials design/development, including materials for use in blended/online programmes as well as on campus.  

6. Ability to deal appropriately and sympathetically with students and staff from a wide range of backgrounds and maintain effective working relationships.

7. Excellent spoken and written English, with the ability to communicate effectively and succinctly. 

8. Excellent IT skills to support efficient and effective working practices:  including using Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, SharePoint, Teams and Outlook.  

9. Willingness to manage a demanding workload, to actively contribute to the department’s growth meeting deadlines and prioritising tasks where necessary.  

10. Hold a can-do attitude and the ability to show autonomy, flexibility and adaptability.

2. Record of CPD, which is acted on, and ability to share insights from training events.
