Associate Professor in Automation and Robotics, Full Time, Permanent
The School of Engineering & the Built Environment (SEBE) is delighted to offer a new Associate Professor post in Automation and Robotics. SEBE offers a range of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes widely recognised for their academic quality, innovation and close ties to the industries in which our graduates work. The successful candidate shall be expected to assist in developing our expanding portfolio of programmes and contribute to the growing international standing of our research. We are currently undertaking a review of all of our activities, so now is a great time to join and help shape our school's future.
The role
Mechanical Engineering and Design (MED) subject has a strong background in energy, materials, manufacturing, design, automation and robotics, mainly how they can be used to meet the goals of Industry 4.0. Our programmes are accredited by the relevant professional body, including the IET, IoM3 and Energy Institute.
As Associate Professor, you shall be expected to be an academic leader capable of delivering high quality, student-centred teaching and learning, underpinned by researchable to support innovation. Particular expertise in the fields of Automation and Control is required.
Essential Requirements:
- A doctoral-level qualification or equivalent
- Evidence of strong academic standing in teaching & learning and research.
- Delivery of high quality, student-centred teaching and learning and successful execution of funded research projects.
- Sufficient breadth and depth of experience to underpin the ongoing development of teaching and learning within the School in Robotics and Automation
- Expertise in the following fields:
- Practical control system development using various programmable devices.
- Robotic and vision systems.
- Support an expansion of the Subject Group's funded research portfolio.
- Demonstrate a level of achievement appropriate to the post applied for, including excellent teaching and learning and an international/national research standing, qualified in terms of outputs, external income generation and leadership.
- Commitment to the sustained and continuous development of the discipline.
Desirable Requirements:
- Experience in undergraduate and postgraduate programme leadership
- Experience in using Siemens TIA, S7 PLC’s, NI Labview, MyRIO and MATLAB
- Maintain national and international networks in industry and academia
- Research and teaching experience in Mechanical engineering
- HEA membership or a strong willingness to achieve membership within 2 years of appointment
- Chartered Engineer
