The Future Photonics Hub works with a network of over 40 companies, representing strategic UK sectors including telecommunications, healthcare, defence and aerospace, to support the rapid commercialisation of innovative photonics manufacturing technologies.

Led by the Zepler Institute for Photonics and Nanoelectronics at the University of Southampton, the Future Photonics Hub combines world-leading research and state-of-the-art facilities, including Southampton’s £120 million Cleanrooms Complex, with a dedicated Industrial Engagement team to bridge the gap between academia and industry.

At the current time Future Photonics Hub staff are mainly working from home, due to the pandemic; the appointed candidate should therefore be prepared to work from home until we are allowed back into offices on the Highfield Campus.

A position has arisen for a Project Administrator who will focus on the Future Photonics Hub, providing general administrative support for business development and industrial engagement activities within the programme, and its team members. You will be responsible for the administrative and financial operations of the Future Photonics Hub’s recently awarded project, ‘Virtualisation in response to the SARS-COVID19 pandemic’, which focuses on transforming and adapting industrial engagement using online platforms designed to enable people to interact digitally in a post-COVID world.

Your key accountabilities will include arranging meetings, liaising with the project partners to gather their requirements and feedback, supporting the project websites and databases, arranging and supporting (virtual) events and seminars, creating promotional materials, and monitoring the project finances.

The position provides the opportunity to join a small, dedicated business development team in one of the leading academic photonics research institutes in the world, comprising over 300 researchers led by Professor Sir David Payne.

You should have proven experience of general administration, excellent written and verbal communication skills, high working/organisation efficiency, be adept at problem solving and working across a range of stakeholders. You must have excellent interpersonal skills, be self-motivated and have an ability to take initiative and work as part of a team.

A-levels, NVQ3 or equivalent professional qualifications are essential, as are good IT skills and experience and success in a similar administrative position. Knowledge of the University processes and regulations is desirable but not essential.

The post is part time (0.6 FTE) fixed term until 31/12/2022.
