The post will be based in the Optoelectronic Research Centre (ORC) at the University of Southampton and available as a result of a research programme sponsored by the European Research Council. The post is available on a fixed term basis until 30/06/2024 due to funding restrictions.
To be successful you will be a hands-on experimental scientist with the drive to solve difficult scientific and technological problems. If you are motivated by working in a high calibre, highly collaborative research environment, then this position provides an exciting environment.
You will demonstrate experience in one of the following fields:
- femtosecond laser direct writing
- fundamentals of light-mater interactions
- nonlinear optics
- ultrafast optics including few-cycle pulses
ideally you will also have experience in:
- micro- and nano-optics
- optical engineering
- ultrafast laser material processing
It is essential you have a PhD* or equivalent professional qualifications and experience in Physics or Electronic and Optical Engineering, along with a good track record of innovative research at an international level. Experience of highly effective working in teams, particularly large teams and experience of working with ultrafast laser systems and have a track record of independently setting up complex optical experiments.

* Applications for Research Fellow positions will be considered from candidates who are working towards or nearing completion of a relevant PhD qualification. The title of Research Fellow will be applied upon successful completion of the PhD. Prior to the qualification being awarded the title of Senior Research Assistant will be given.
