Research Assistant for Neuroscience of Learning

Job Description

The NUS Institute for Applied Learning Sciences and Educational Technology (ALSET) is seeking a Research Assistant to carry out research on approaches for optimizing cognitive performance and learning outcomes. ALSET is an institute at the National University of Singapore (NUS) with a special focus on advancing teaching and learning practices, especially for tertiary and adult students in Asia. ALSET is positioned to serve as a platform to bring together interested partners in and outside of NUS to design, develop, deploy, and evaluate learning processes, systems, and applications. ALSET aims to enhance the educational experience through rigorous research and its practical application.

The Research Assistant will be responsible for developing and managing research projects under the theme “Neuroscience of Learning”. Research topics include (1) identifying factors that give rise to individual differences in learning, (2) strategies for improving learning efficiency, (3) the role of mental health, emotional regulation, and student wellbeing in learning, and (4) social and environmental factors that impact brain function and learning. The Research Assistant will be tasked with carrying out experimental studies, analyzing behavioral and educational data, and preparing reports and publications. The Research Assistant will be supervised by A/P Joshua J Gooley.

Qualifications

Previous experience in the cognitive sciences is preferred, but not required. Individuals with a background in the following areas will be considered: cognitive neuroscience, psychology, engineering, and computer science. Competitive applicants will have experience analyzing data, with a solid background in statistics.

Requirements

  • BA or BS degree in psychology, neuroscience, the life sciences, computer science, statistics, or engineering
  • Strong computer and/or analytical skills
  • Experience with Python or R programming languages
