The opportunity
The Quality Enhancement Directorate is at the heart of Cardiff Met, working in partnership with colleagues in the Schools and Professional Services to make a positive contribution to the experiences of staff and students at the University. Spanning the Quality Assurance provision and the enhancement and development of Teaching and Learning, we play a unique and significant part in shaping policy and progress in line with the University’s Strategic Plans.

As the Curriculum Development Lead, you will play an integral role in ensuring that the University’s approach to programme design is current and informed by best sector practice. You will be an enthusiastic, professional, positive and creative individual, with significant experience of academic delivery and curriculum design. A commitment to supporting the University in providing an excellent student experience through the development of innovate, meaningful and engaging academic programmes is essential.
Using your established knowledge and your professional expertise, you will work with academic Schools, our Students Union, other professional services and learning development colleagues within QED to establish a sustainable quality enhancement model that supports and empowers Schools to design excellent curriculum. You will also play a key role in disseminating good practice and providing advice and guidance on curriculum and assessment development.
What you’ll do – key duties
You will work closely with colleagues in QED to ensure that the University’s approach to curriculum development is aligned with the ambitions of the Strategic Plan and encourage the development of innovative and engaging programmes of study.
Key to this role will be the establishment of a sustainable model of providing academic curriculum development advice and guidance in support of the University’s Strategy. You will need to contribute to the Professional Learning programme delivered by QED - facilitating the sharing of good practice and innovation in curriculum development within and across disciplines including organising workshops and staff development events for internal and external staff as required.
Being proactive in staying abreast of sector developments and current research relating to curriculum design will be key and you will use this knowledge to inform practice at Cardiff Met and be willing to share practice with external groups.
What you’ll bring – essential experience & strengths
- Experience of teaching in a HE environment and designing academic programmes;
- Lived experience of curriculum design and the ability to improve standards of performance in relation to curriculum development;
- Knowledge of sector leading practice in curriculum design and development;
- Experience of delivering high quality staff development/training;
- Ability to lead and motivate a team;
- Excellent project management skills and excellent planning, time management and organisational skills;
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills including the ability to interact effectively with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders at a senior level;
- Ability to provide creative and effective solutions to complex problems;
- Ability to work under pressure, highly computer literate.

- An Initial degree or equivalent qualification;
- Evidence of continuous professional development;
- A relevant post-graduate qualification or award.
