Job description
Researcher – School of Computing
Full time – Fixed term contract – 24 months
We are seeking a postdoctoral researcher for 24 months to undertake research within two research projects. The main focus will be the EU-funded GLASS project, and which aims to develop a 'European Common Services Web'. The project introduces a citizen-centric e-governance model that enables beneficiaries to participate in a network for data exchange and service delivery, and which is digital-by-default, cross-border, and secure. The focus for this post will be in the integration of distributed ledgers, privacy-enhancing methods data sharing and consent methods, and in the integration of citizen identity. With the required qualifications and experience, there is the opportunity for this post to be converted to a Research Fellow.

The role
The researcher will be hosted in the expanding Blockpass Identity Lab on the Merchiston Campus, and will collaborate with a number of active researchers in the areas of cryptography, privacy-preserving methods, distributed ledgers and identity. It will involve investigating the existing state-of-the-art around the areas distributed data sharing, consent model, and in the integration of public and permissioned distributed ledgers. Once specified the focus of the work will move into an implementation and evaluation phase. A core part of the work will involve collaboration with a range of partnerships on the design, implementation, and evaluation of the developed system.
What are we looking for
Essential requirements:
- Undergraduate or postgraduate qualificationin a Computer Science-related area.
- Strong interest in the development of distributed ledgersand privacy-preserving methods.
- Evidence of coding in a related area.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
Desirable requirements:
- Experience in the development of blockchain/distributed ledgersor in cryptography.
- A PhD in a Computer Science-related area.
