At TU Dresden, the Faculty of Physics, Institute of Solid State and Materials Physics and the Leibniz Institute for Solid State and Materials Research Dresden (IFW) seek to fill the

CEOS Endowed Chair (W2) of Electron Optics  

combined with the position of a

Senior Scientist  

at the Leibniz Institute for Solid State and Materials Research Dresden (IFW) 

in a joint appointment procedure at the earliest possible date.

The chair, which is financed by CEOS GmbH, focuses on experimental and theoretical electron optics and aims at developing instrumentation for novel  imaging and analytical methods for high-resolution electron microscopy. You will establish and lead a new research group in electron optics as a link between IFW Dresden and the Faculty of Physics of TU Dresden, in particular developing innovative methods for electron spectroscopy and imaging techniques in electron microscopy. We expect you to participate in national and international research networks, initiate major research projects, and maintain interdisciplinary collaborations within IFW and TU Dresden as well as with other non-university institutions within the alliance of DRESDEN-concept and with industry. You will contribute to the teaching of the Faculty of Physics, including giving courses in English. Your teaching obligation will amount to between two and four weekly academic hours per semester. Your duties will furthermore include active participation in self-administration and academic boards. 

We are seeking you as a person with outstanding scientific achievements in the field of appointment and with a respective experience in teaching. Acquaintance with materials science and with the corre¬sponding analytical methods at low temperatures and in situ is desirable. Besides an excellent scientific track record, you should also have a background as a group leader, work efficiently in a team and be able to plan strategically. To be eligible for the position, you need to have a doctorate in physics or a related discipline as well as a habilitation or habilitation-equivalent achievements in research and teaching. Applicants must fulfil the employment qualification requirements of § 58 of the Act on the Autonomy of Institutions of Higher Education in the Free State of Saxony (SächsHSFG).
