Research Assistant (Global Health Research)

We are recruiting a full-time Research Assistant, for an initial period of one year, with familiarity and analytic skills in qualitative and mixed methods research. You will conduct stakeholder and other research and support administrative aspects of the project as part of an interdisciplinary and largely online team. You should be comfortable with remote working and online communication platforms. You will be team player and able to work efficiently to produce timely and high-quality contributions and use your own initiative to prioritise tasks and solve problems.

Your main project will be to help conduct a situational analysis of existing disease prevention and control policies, processes, stakeholders, and institutional relationships in the ASEAN region to inform development of a regional centre for infectious disease control. You will help identify current disease prevention and control activities and needs in each country, and help determine effective operating mechanisms and partner roles for such a centre.

Responsibilities:

  1. .To work with the Global Health Office team, supervised by Associate Professor Natasha Howard, to engage regional experts and stakeholders, organise events, conduct situational assessment and stakeholder mapping (e.g. relational, positional) and prepare written reports.
  2. To contribute as required to development, implementation, analysis, and write-up of:
    • Peer reviewed journal manuscripts, project reports, and policy briefs.
    • Research funding applications for submission to national and international funding bodies.
    • Ethics applications to NUS and study country review boards for global research projects.
    • Interval and final reports for research grants and ethics submissions.
  3. To perform other relevant global health research duties as required.

Qualifications

Requirements:

  • At least a Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant subject area (e.g. Public Health, Global Health, International Development, Medical Sociology or other social science), or equivalent.
  • Excellent writing and communication skills in English.
  • Written and spoken fluency in at least one major Southeast Asian language (e.g. Bahasa Indonesia, Burmese, Khmer, Lao, Malay, Mandarin, Tagalog, Tamil, Tetun, Thai, Vietnamese).
  • Strong qualitative and quantitative research skills and experience, particularly stakeholder mapping and network analysis and interest in learning new methods.
  • Experience of research in global health and some experience of health policy and systems
  • Experience engaging health policy-makers.
  • Highly organized and able to work effectively under pressure, use independent judgement and produce high-quality work within tight time constraints.
  • Able to work independently as well as with a team.
