• An opportunity for a Post-doctoral Research Fellow to conduct research to support an NHMRC Investigator Leadership 2 grant within the Charles Perkins Centre and School of Health Sciences
• Located at the Charles Perkins Centre on the Camperdown Campus, part of the Faculty of Medicine and Health
• Full-time, 2 years fixed term with a salary range of $108K- $128K p.a., dependent on experience plus leave loading and a generous employer’s contribution to superannuation

About the opportunity 

Reporting to Professor Emmanuel Stamatakis, the Research Fellow will provide leadership and contribute to a program of research involving large epidemiological cohort data on physical activity, sedentary behavior, sleep, and other aspects of lifestyle. You will have a strong publications track record, and be expected to provide research leadership to the preparation of epidemiological data publications and grant applications. You will have excellent interpersonal and communication skills and will be offered plenty of opportunities to lead and work with international research networks. The role will also involve contributions to exercise trials and physical activity measurement related studies. 

About you

• a PhD in epidemiology, public health, applied statistics, physical activity/sedentary behaviour/exercise science, data science, or analogous area 
• strong expertise and research experience in physical activity or sedentary behaviour
• strong statistical skills and excellent working knowledge of ideally more than one statistical packages (SAS, R, SPSS, STATA etc)
• experience in meta-analytical and/or other advanced data synthesis methods (e.g. individual participant meta-analysis)
• experience with funding applications for research grants and/or research fellowships.
• experience with harmonization/pooling/management of large datasets; and/or advanced statistical techniques (e.g. compositional data analysis, Mendelian Randomisation) would be highly desirable

PALPH is within the Charles Perkins Centre and the School of Health Sciences, at the University of Sydney and has expertise in large epidemiological cohort research, international consortia, measurement, and exercise science trials. The PALPH work is funded mostly by grants provided by NHMRC (Ideas Grant, Investigator Grant), the British Heart Foundation. This role is funded directly by an NHMRC- Investigator Grant whose research component is primarily concerned with the development of the Prospective Physical Activity, Sitting and Sleep consortium (ProPASS); and the advancement of the research agenda on intermittent lifestyle physical activity.
