Job Description

Heat injury is a problem for personnel undergoing training under hot and humid climatic conditions. An individual's body core temperature can signal the likelihood of impending heat injury. At present, body core temperature is mostly measured using an invasive thermometer pill, which makes its widespread use problematic. An alternative is a mathematical model capable of estimating body core temperature.

For this research position, the applicant will enhance an existing physics-based mathematical model implemented using MATLAB to predict, among others, body core temperature, heart rate and sweat rate. Real-life data will be provided for model training and validation.

Qualifications

  • The applicant must have a relevant Bachelor Degree preferably in Mechanical Engineering.
  • The applicant must have knowledge of fundamental Mechanical Engineering principles, especially in Fluid Mechanics, Heat Transfer, Thermodynamics, Numerical Methods, etc.
  • Knowledge of MATLAB is essential.
  • Experience in coding and debugging is highly recommended.
  • Knowledge of physiology and human biology will also be beneficial for this position.
  • The applicant must also have good oral and written communication skills in English.
